Project location
This project will take place at the intersection of WIS 76 and Larsen Road, 2.2 miles south of US 10, in the town of Clayton, Winnebago County.

Project purpose and need
The purpose of the project is to improve safety at the intersection of WIS 76 and Larsen Road while providing acceptable traffic operations. The need for the proposed improvement is to reduce the number and severity of crashes at the intersection, particularly right-angle type crashes, and to improve the traffic operations of the intersection.

  • The intersection of WIS 76 and Larsen Road had sixteen crashes from 2016 to 2020, resulting in one fatal crash and nine injury type crashes.
  • Of the sixteen crashes, twelve were right angle crashes.
  • In addition, the new Neenah High School located approximately 1-mile east of the intersection is expected to increase traffic at the intersection.

Project improvements

WisDOT will construct a single lane roundabout at the WIS 76/Larsen Road intersection. Construction includes new pavement structure, new pavement markings and signing, culvert and storm sewer installation, and intersection lighting.

Anticipated benefits

This project will improve traffic safety by reducing number of right-angle crashes, improving intersection operational efficiency, providing smoother driving lanes for motorists, improve intersection drainage, and decrease future maintenance costs

Traffic impacts

The WIS 76/Larsen Road intersection will be CLOSED AND DETOURED from June 30, 2025, to September 2025.

  • Detour route: Interstate 41 to US 10.
  • Access to local residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Temporary Business Signing

Temporary business signing may be placed during the detoured portion of the project by filling out a WisDOT temporary business signing permit. The permit is free. All temporary business signing needs approval via the permit before placement to ensure it is in a safe location and do not pose a visual distraction or traffic hazard. Costs associated with creating the temporary signing are the responsibility of the business.

  • Please keep the following items in mind regarding business signing:
  • Temporary business signings cannot be placed on traffic control devices or state signs.
  • WisDOT encourages businesses to team up and have multiple businesses listed on one sign structure versus several individual signs. This makes it easier for travelers to identify signs and find their destination.

Temporary Business Sign permits are available as a fillable-form WORD document on the Business Resource website. You can also request one from the contacts below.

WisDOT Resources for Businesses
WisDOT recognizes businesses located in work zones have special needs. While signing and other marketing/advertising during the construction is up to the business, WisDOT has business resources available through its “In This Together” website to assist businesses with planning for construction closures and minimizing the impact of construction.
