Project Overview
The project will reconfigure WIS 33 from a 4-lane roadway to a 2-lane roadway with a 2-way left turn lane in the center of the roadway to improve the safety and operations of the highway. Removing the left turn lanes from the through lane of traffic is expected to decrease the number of rear end collisions and improve traffic flow. At key intersections, the 2-way left turn lane will become dedicated left or right turn lanes.
For the majority of the project, the roadway width and location of the sidewalk will remain the same. The Village of West Baraboo and City of Baraboo will also be replacing water and sanitary facilities during the project. Additional improvements include:
- Addressing drainage issues and replacing storm sewer facilities.
- Replacing traffic signals and making improvements at the Draper Street, Broadway, and East Street (County A) intersections.
- Constructing pedestrian refuge medians at select locations along WIS 33.
- Replacing all of the sidewalk along WIS 33 within the Village, and replacing sidewalk only as needed in the City.
- Installing new street lighting in the Village of West Baraboo and City of Baraboo.
- City of Baraboo posts updates to their Facebook page here.
