Construction updates for July 17 to July 28, 2017
Welcome to construction information for every state highway construction project currently underway in northeast Wisconsin. This website is published by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region communication managers Mark and Melissa. Here you can find details and detours on any state highway construction project in our 11-county area. Updates include a two-week description of construction operations taking place, traffic impacts, detours, schedule, cost, and project location/limits. BROWN COUNTY
I-43 resurfacing and bridge overlays, WIS 172 cable guard installation
Location/limits: I-43 (WIS 96 to WIS 172); WIS 172 (Webster Ave. to I-43/WIS 172 ramps)
Schedule: March 20, 2017 to November 2017
Length: I-43 (10.6 miles), WIS 172 (2.98 miles)
Cost: $16.5 million
Description of work: Work on I-43 consists of concrete base patching of I-43 mainline (northbound and southbound), milling 2-inches of asphalt pavement and placing 4-inches of new asphalt pavement, signing, pavement marking, concrete overlay on various bridge structures, and concrete deck replacement of the US 141/County Road MM bridge over I-43. Bridge structure work on I-43 will be completed by the July 4th Holiday. Work on WIS 172 consists of installing cable guard and median grading. WIS 172 work will take place during nighttime hours starting in July.
July 17 to July 21: Milling and paving continued in the northbound and southbound lanes throughout the project limits. Allouez Avenue overpass repair work completed and the roadway opened.
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will continue milling and paving in both the northbound and southbound lanes of interstate I-43. There will be approximately 5 miles of lane closure in each direction at one time, however it will be moved throughout the week to encompass the work area needed. The contractor will also be starting the median grading work on WIS 172 between Webster Avenue and Interstate I-43.
Traffic impacts: Starting on July 5, the I-43 lane closures will take place during the week (with both lanes open on weekends). Current closures are listed below.
- July 5 to mid-October there will be various single lane closures set up in both the northbound and southbound directions. These lane closures will be only 5 miles in length in each direction at any given time.
- Eastbound WIS 172 ramp to southbound I-43 will be closed from Wednesday night, July 26, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for pavement repairs.
- WIS 172 nighttime median lane closures will be set up nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the end of August.
- Allouez Avenue overpass is now open.
- North Avenue overpass is closed until the end of July.

WIS 32 (Ashland Ave.) resurfacing and bridge replacement
Location/limits: WIS 32 (Ashland Ave.), 8th Street to Lombardi Ave.
Schedule: February 9, 2017 to August 2017
Length: 3.2 miles
Cost: $6.3 million
Description of work: Resurfacing of WIS 32 with some deeper repairs to fix rutting at the various intersections. The project also includes replacement of two bridges over Ashwaubenon Creek, traffic signal replacement, railroad crossing replacement, beam guard replacement, new signing and pavement marking at Parkview Road, and pour concrete bases for new traffic signals along the project.
July 17 to July 21: The contractor installed beam guard and permanent signing along Ashland Ave from Vanderperren Way to Pilgrim Way. The contractor will paint pavement markings along Ashland Ave between Vanderperren Way and Pilgrim Way. The contractor will complete the wing wall work at the Dutchman’s Creek box culvert. The contractor will open the Ashland Ave / Vanderperren Way and the Ashland Ave / Pilgrim Way Intersections. The contractor will close the Ashland Ave / Cormier Road Intersection. The contractor will begin the electrical work at the Ashland Ave / Cormier Road Intersection.
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will backfill the wing wall work at the Dutchman’s Creek box culvert. The contractor will mill the existing asphalt pavement at the Ashland Ave / Cormier Road Intersection. The contractor will complete the electrical work at the Ashland Ave / Cormier Road Intersection. The contractor will begin paving the Ashland Ave / Cormier Road Intersection.
Traffic impacts:
- Ashland Ave. is open to through traffic between Parkview Road and Hansen Road.
- Ashland Ave. is open to through traffic between Cormier Road and Lombardi Ave.
- The Ashland/Cormier intersection is closed as of Wednesday, July 19 for approximately 2 weeks.
- Access to residences and businesses will be maintained.
Detour: WIS 32 northbound traffic at the 8th Street intersection will be detoured onto County G (Main Street) westbound to northbound I-41 to the Mason Street interchange where it will connect back into WIS 32. Southbound traffic will be directed to stay on I-41 at the Mason Street interchange to the County G (Main Ave.) exit and back to WIS 32 southbound at the 8th Street intersection.

WIS 32 (8th Street) reconstruction
Location: WIS 32 (8th Street), Main Ave. to Ashland Ave. in city of De Pere
Schedule: April 17 to August 2017
Length: 0.4 miles
Cost: $1,504,629.90
Description of work: The project is located on WIS 32 (8th Street) from the intersection of Main Avenue to the Ashland Avenue roundabout in the city of De Pere in Brown County. The existing pavement and utilities are beyond their service life. The city has already completed replacement of the watermain and sanitary facilities. This project will be a full reconstruct of the roadway. The parking lanes on 8th Street will be removed, and bike lanes will be added with the project. Work will consist of storm sewer, concrete pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk, signing, pavement marking, lighting and landscaping.
July 17 to July 21: Sidewalk removal and grading behind the sidewalk will begin on the east side pending the completion of the sidewalk on the west side. Concrete paving sidewalk & driveways will follow the removal. Restoration and finishing will follow sidewalk completion. Electrical bases, conduits and light poles will be installed for the street lighting. Restoration and finishing will follow sidewalk completion.
July 24 to July 28: Sidewalk removal and grading behind the sidewalk will continue on the east side. Concrete paving sidewalk & driveways will follow the removal. Restoration and finishing will follow sidewalk completion. Restoration and finishing will follow sidewalk completion.
Traffic impacts: 8th Street from Main Avenue to Ashland Avenue will be closed during construction. Local access will be maintained for property owners and businesses in the construction area. The closure will also include a pedestrian detour via 9th Street, which will be in place for the duration of the project.
Detour:
- WIS 32 northbound traffic at the 8th Street intersection will take County G (Main Ave.) westbound to northbound I-41 to the Mason Street interchange where it will connect back into WIS 32.
- Southbound traffic will be directed to stay on I-41 at the Mason Street interchange to the County G (Main Ave.) exit and back to WIS 32 southbound at the 8th Street intersection.

Green Bay Lift Bridges
Location: WIS 29 (Walnut Street Bridge), US 141 (Main Street Bridge), WIS 54 (Mason Street Bridge) over the Fox River in the city of Green Bay
Schedule: September 2016 to July 2017
Length: On-bridge work
Cost: $1,328,700
Description of work: The project includes upgrades to the software systems that control the bridges, new closed circuit television (CCTV) monitors and cameras, and a new public address system on the bridges. The project will also include the installation of equipment to provide the capability of future remote operation of the Mason Street Bridge and Main Street Bridge from the Walnut Street Bridge.
July 17 to July 21: The state will be performing remote operations tests for the next several weeks. The bridges at Main Street, Walnut Street and Mason Street will be opened periodically throughout the day.
July 24 to July 28: Remote operations testing taking place. The testing will go on for the next several weeks. The bridges at Main Street, Walnut Street and Mason Street will be opened periodically throughout the day for testing.
Traffic impacts: Periodic closures of WIS 29, WIS 54, and US 141 bridges may occur during weekday, nighttime hours (10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday) to open and close the bridges for testing of the mechanical and electrical systems. Equipment testing on any of the bridges will not occur at the same time. Some lane closures will be permitted during the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
BROWN AND OUTAGAMIE COUNTIES
I-41 resurfacing, ramp and bridge structure work
Location/limits: I-41, County J in Outagamie County to Orange Lane in Brown County
Length: 10.35 miles
Schedule: Feb. 20, 2017 to November 2017
Description of work: Work will include milling off and resurfacing existing pavement, concrete pavement patch repairs, cable guard installation, polymer high-friction surface treatment application on bridge decks, beam guard replacements, grading, concrete pavement, storm sewer, culvert pipe replacements and lining, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) installation, signing and pavement marking. Other improvements include deck repair to the Apple Creek bridges due to deterioration, expansion of capacity at the County S Park and Ride, reconstruction of the Wrightstown Weigh Station ramps, and the addition of an auxiliary lane from the weigh station to County U northbound I-41 off-ramp.
July 17 to July 21: Forming of the deck will begin at the northbound Apple Creek Structure, New permanent concrete barrier will be installed between northbound I-41 and French Road, asphalt paving operations will continue on the northern half of the project, and sawing, patching, and culvert pipes will be installed in the northbound lanes between the two temporary crossovers.
July 24 to July 28: Installation of the new concrete bridge deck at the northbound structure over Apple Creek is scheduled for July 27. Asphaltic paving on the north half of the project will continue. Grading for the new on and off-ramps at the truck scale will be completed.
Traffic impacts: I-41 nighttime lane closures will take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. A minimum of one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
- I-41/County Road S ramp closure
- Monday, July 24 (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Southbound I-41 on-ramp closed
- Tuesday, July 25 (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Southbound I-41 on and off-ramp closed
- Thursday, July 27 (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Northbound I-41 off-ramp closed
- Friday, July 28 (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Northbound I-41 off-ramp closed
- County U northbound off ramp will be closed at night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday thru Friday (July 17 thru July 21).
- County U northbound on ramp will be closed at night from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday (July 21)
- Apple Creek bridges is currently being rehabbed one half at a time. Traffic is shifted onto three lanes (two in one direction and one in the opposite direction) on one side of I-41 and leave one remaining adjacent to the work zone.
- The I-41/County U northbound off-ramp is scheduled to be closed on July 31 and will remain closed for 15 consecutive days while the connection with the on-ramp from the truck scale can be made.
- County S (between I-41 ramps) will be closed at a later date for 15 consecutive days. Days/time TBA.

BROWN AND SHAWANO COUNTIES
WIS 29 / 156 Intersection
Location: WIS 156 (WIS 55 to WIS 29), Old 29 Drive (WIS 156 to County Y), WIS 29 at WIS 156 and St. Augustine Rd
Schedule: July 10, 2017 to September 2018
Length of project: 6.3 miles
Cost: $5.2 million
Description of work: Realignment of St. Augustine Road and construction of a new overpass at WIS 29/St. Augustine Road. The project will eliminate the existing WIS 156/St Augustine Road intersection with WIS 29. Relocation of WIS 156 onto Old 29 Drive and County Y to the WIS 29/32 interchange. Portions of Old 29 Drive/County Y intersection will be reconstructed to accommodate the new WIS 156 route. Resurfacing 4 miles of WIS 156 and 2 miles of new WIS 156 (on Old 29 Drive). Construction of three new box culverts. New culvert pipes, guard rail, signing and pavement marking.
July 17 to July 21: The contractor continued stripping topsoil, working on temporary stream diversions and earthwork for the overpass.
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will continue earthwork and ditching for the overpass. Landscaping and restoration will occur as needed. Clearing and grubbing will be completed on the project.
Traffic impacts:
- WIS 29 will have outside shoulder closures (highway will remain open).
- St. Augustine Road south of Cottonwood Drive will be CLOSED for the duration of the project. There will be no access to/from St. Augustine Road and WIS 29. Local traffic can use Cottonwood Drive to WIS 32 to access WIS 29 in either direction.
CALUMET COUNTY AND OUTAGAMIE COUNTY
WIS 55 Resurfacing
Location: US 10 to Ridgecrest Lane
Schedule: July 10, 2017 to August 2017
Length: 2.72 miles
Cost: $0.59 million
Description of work: The work under this contract consists of milling and asphalt overlay, centerline rumble strips, minor curb and gutter and inlet casting rehabilitation, pavement marking, permanent signing, and shouldering.
July 17 to July 21: Crews will be on site shouldering along the roadway, installing centerline rumble strips, and installing permanent pavement marking.
July 24 to July 28: Crews will be working on punchlist items.
Traffic Impacts: Lane closures with flagging operations on WIS 55 will take place throughout the project.
Detour: None
FOND DU LAC COUNTY
WIS 44 recondition and passing lane addition
Location/limits: Douglas Street/E Oshkosh St. Intersection in city of Ripon to 500 feet north of the Fond du Lac/Winnebago County line
Schedule: May 30, 2017 to October 2017
Length: 4.9 Miles
Cost: $4,787,756
Description of work: This project includes removing and replacing WIS 44 pavement, widening of the roadway section from 36-feet to 44-feet, adding one-mile long passing lanes to northbound WIS 44 from Seelig Way to Page Road, and southbound WIS 44 from Fletcher Road to just past Springbrook Road, and adding traffic signals to the Douglas Street/E Oshkosh Street intersection. Other work includes adding centerline and shoulder rumble strips, improving drainage where possible, ancillary concrete, permanent signing, erosion control, pavement marking and landscaping.
July 17 to July 21: The contractor continued stripping topsoil and working on earthwork. They continued placing breaker run, geogrid and fabric as subgrade conditions dictate. They continued to place base aggregate dense on top of the breaker run or suitable fill. They continued to install cross culverts and began placing driveway culverts on the south half of the project. They continued to place seed, erosion matting, fertilizer and mulch to establish vegetation in finished graded ditches.
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will continue stripping topsoil and working on earthwork. They will continue placing breaker run, geogrid and fabric as subgrade conditions dictate. They will continue to place base aggregate dense on top of the breaker run or suitable fill. They will continue to install cross culverts and continue placing driveway culverts. They will complete the installation of the traffic signals. They will continue to place seed, erosion matting, fertilizer and mulch to establish vegetation in finished graded ditches.
Traffic impacts: WIS 44 is closed to through traffic and detoured for the duration of the project. Local access will be maintained to property owners, residents and emergency services. Eastbound WIS 44 may be restricted to one lane during off-peak hours (peak hours 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.). All northbound, southbound and eastbound truck turning movements are to be maintained throughout construction. When the contractor is completing the traffic signal installation at the Wisconsin 44 (Oshkosh Street) and Douglas Street intersection, please be cautious, obey signs and look for flaggers.
Detour: Northbound WIS 44 detour route will follow WIS 23 to County M to WIS 44, and reverse for southbound traffic detour.
MANITOWOC COUNTY
I-43 resurfacing and bridge replacement
Location/limits: I-43, Clover Road in Clover to Point Creek Road in Cleveland
Length: 6.5 miles
Schedule: March 20, 2017 to November 2017
Cost: $9.4 million
Description of work: I-43 work will consist of concrete base patching of mainline and milling 2-inches of asphalt pavement and placing 4-inches of new asphalt pavement, concrete overlay on bridge structures, signing, pavement marking concrete overlay on bridge structures. Ramp patching and resurfacing work at County C interchange, bridge replacement of northbound I-43 bridge at Point Creek Road and bridge replacement of southbound I-43 bridge over County U/Newton Road.
July 17 to July 21: Crews poured concrete overlays on the northbound I-43 bridges over County F, Carstens Lake Road, and Clover Road. Crews poured abutments for the new northbound I-43 bridge over Point Creek. Crews continued sawing for pavement repairs.
July 24 to July 28: Crews will continue pouring concrete overlays on the northbound I-43 bridges. Crews will set girders and begin installing deck falsework for the new northbound I-43 bridge over Point Creek. Crews will continue sawing concrete for pavement repairs on northbound I-43.
Traffic impacts: There will be only one lane of traffic open on northbound and southbound I-43 for the majority of the project. Expect travel delays during peak travel times. Various ramps will be closed during the project. Current or upcoming closures are listed below
- March 20, 2017 to November 2017: I-43 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Point Creek Road and Silver Creek Road.
- July 10 to August 14: Northbound I-43 on-ramp from County C CLOSED.
Detour: During I-43/County C ramp closures, motorists should use the I-43/US 151 interchange ramps to the north or the I-43/County XX interchange ramps to the south. No detour will be posted for local road closures.

WIS 42 (Lincoln Avenue) reconstruction
Location/limits: Lincoln Ave. from 22nd Street to 35th Place in city of Two Rivers
Length 0.9 Miles
Schedule: March 12, 2017 to November 2017
Cost: $4.5 million
Description of work: This project is an urban reconstruct of WIS 42, includes grading, storm sewer, water main, sanitary sewer, concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, signing, pavement marking and street lighting.
July 17 to July 21: Storm sewer installation continued north of 33rd St. The contractor installed mini-storm sewer on the east side of the roadway south of 30th St. Grading for sidewalk on the east side of the roadway began on the southern part of the project.
July 24 to July 28: Mini-storm sewer will be completed on the east side of the roadway up to 30th St. Sidewalk grading will continue and pouring of concrete will be started on the east side with the contractor concentrating their efforts near driveways. Excavation will start north of 30th St. in preparation for additional mainline concrete pavement being placed.
Traffic impacts: WIS 42 from 22nd Street to 35th Place is closed and detoured during construction. Access will be maintained to property owners, businesses and emergency services. Cross traffic will be maintained at 24th Street and 34th Street at all times except that 24th St will be closed periodically for trimming and concrete paving operations.
Detour: The detour route follows County VV, WIS 147 and WIS 42.
OUTAGAMIE COUNTY
WIS 125 (College Avenue) resurfacing
Location/limits: I-41 to Linwood Avenue in the town of Grand Chute/city of Appleton
Schedule: July 25, 2017 to September 27, 2017
Length: 1.49 miles
Cost: $3.5 million
Description of work: This project consists of resurfacing College Avenue between I-41 and Linwood Avenue, concrete pavement patch repairs, asphalt pavement, curb and gutter repair, traffic signal replacements at five intersections, pavement marking and signing. In addition, the bridge over the railroad (between Perkins St. and Linwood Ave.) will receive a concrete deck overlay.
July 17 to July 21: Crews continue concrete base patching on various lanes. Work will be finished on the left-turn lane to south I-41 and opened when completed. The median crossovers between Perkins and Linwood will be finished in preparation for traffic switches next week. Traffic signal work continues during the day and night to set the remaining wiring fixtures. The signals will be switched at night from the old signals to the new.
July 24 to July 28: Crews continue concrete base patching on various lanes. Beginning late this week, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction and moved to using the median crossovers for the bridge work on July 31. On project message signs will state the date the changes will take place/start.
Traffic impacts: College Avenue will remain open to traffic during construction. The majority of the work will be conducted under nighttime lane closures. One lane will remain open in each direction at night. Starting July 31, the railroad bridge (between Perkins St. and Linwood Ave.) will be rehabbed one half at a time. Traffic will be crossed over to the opposing side for each respective stage and will be restricted to a single lane in each direction. Traffic will remain a single lane through mid-September.

WIS 47/County OO Intersection reconstruction
Location/limits: Mason Street/County OO intersection to WIS 47/County OO intersection in the city of Appleton
Schedule: June 19, 2017 to September 2017
Length: 0.6 miles
Cost: $3.0 million
Description of work: This project will reconstruct the WIS 47/County OO intersection into a roundabout, and upgrade signals and turn lanes at the County OO intersections with Mason Street, West Service Road, and Bennett Street. Mason Street will be widened to install right turn lanes. Items of work include storm sewer, excavation common, base aggregate dense, breaker run, concrete pavement, curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, traffic signals, lighting, permanent signing, pavement marking, a retaining wall, and landscaping.
July 17 to July 21: The northbound WIS 47 north and south legs were paved and a portion of the south leg median of WIS 47 was paved. Joint sealing began. Construction staking, saw cutting, and pavement removal continued.
July 24 to July 28: Traffic control modifications, clearing and grubbing, pavement removal, pavement recycling, storm sewer, and grading work will begin at the Mason Street intersection. Electrical work will resume and curb and gutter installation will begin.
Traffic Impacts: Within project limits there will be no east-side driveway access off WIS 47 from approximately Thursday, July 19 until Saturday, July 22. Access to businesses will still be available via County OO. Access to Northland Mall and Weiland Avenue off WIS 47 will remain open during this time frame. Beginning July 24, County OO will be reduced to one lane in each direction from west of Mason Street to the WIS 47/County OO intersection. Southbound Mason Street will be reduced to one lane and traffic shifted east prior to the County OO intersection. Northbound Mason Street traffic will remain dual lane, but will be shifted east prior to the County OO intersection. The Mason Street intersection traffic signals will be removed and replaced with all-way stops.
Detour: WIS 47 and County OO will be detoured during the closure of the WIS 47/County OO intersection. The detour route for WIS 47 traffic will be along WIS 96 (W. Wisconsin Avenue), County E (Ballard Road), and I-41. The detour route for County OO traffic will be along I-41 and
County E (Ballard Road).

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY
I-43 resurfacing
Location/limits: I-43 from Sheboygan/Manitowoc County line to WIS 42/I-43 interchange
Schedule: June 1, 2017 to November 2017
Length: 6.9 miles
Cost: $6.2 million
Description of work: Project consists of concrete base patching of I-43 mainline, milling 2-inches of asphalt pavement and placing 4-inches of new asphalt pavement, ramp resurfacing at the I-43/WIS 42 interchange, culvert replacement, signing, and pavement marking.
July 17 to July 21: They continued saw cutting for the base patching on the outside lanes of northbound and southbound I-43. The finished base patching in the southbound lanes. They also finished right-of-way fence replacement.
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will finish base patching of the concrete pavement on the outside lanes of northbound I-43. They will begin milling operations and placement of asphaltic pavement.
Traffic impacts: There will be single lane closures of northbound and southbound I-43 during construction, leaving one lane of traffic open for motorists in various segments of the project work zone. However, lane closures will be removed during peak travel times on the weekend.
- Northbound I-43 will be down to a single lane of travel from 6 a.m. Saturday through noon on Friday during construction.
- All lanes open from noon Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday during construction.
- Southbound I-43 will be down to a single lane of travel from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Sunday during construction.
- All lanes open from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday during construction.
- There will be various nighttime closures of the I-43/WIS 42 interchange ramps for paving operations.

WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) reconstruction
Location/limits: Calumet Drive from Main Avenue to 26th Street in the city of Sheboygan, and from Mueller Road to I-43.
Schedule: May 22, 2017 to October 2017
Length: 1.5 mile
Cost: $3.3 million
Description of work: The project includes full reconstruction of WIS 42 from Main Avenue to 26th Street, a total length of one-half mile, and pavement rehabilitation of WIS 42 from Mueller Road to I-43, a total length of 1 mile. Work consists of earthwork and grading, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer, base aggregate, concrete pavement, concrete pavement repair, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, street lighting, traffic signals, landscaping, pavement markings, and sign replacement.
July 17 to July 21: The contractor finished grading operations and breaker run placement, and started storm sewer installation along WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) northbound lanes. They also finished fine grading and placed concrete pavement along North Avenue westbound lanes east of WIS 42 (Calumet Drive).
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will continue to install storm sewer and place base aggregate along WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) northbound lanes. They will also continue to place concrete pavement and grade for sidewalk along North Avenue westbound lanes east of WIS 42 (Calumet Drive).
Traffic impacts: WIS 42 and North Avenue will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Various turning movements will be prohibited at the WIS 42 and North Avenue intersection at times during construction.
Current Traffic Restrictions:
- WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) is counter-directional along the southbound lanes and reduced to one lane in each direction from Main Avenue to 27th Street.
- Right turn prohibited from WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) northbound to North Avenue eastbound.
- Right turn prohibited from WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) southbound to North Avenue westbound.
- North Avenue is counter-directional along the eastbound lanes and reduced to one lane in each direction from 24th Street to 21st Street.
- Left turn prohibited from North Avenue eastbound to WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) northbound.
- Left turn prohibited from North Avenue westbound to WIS 42 (Calumet Drive) southbound.
- No access to 25th Street east from WIS 42 (Calumet Drive).
- No access to 26th Street east from WIS 42 (Calumet Drive).

WIS 144 reconditioning
Location/limits: WIS 144 from WIS 28 in Silver Creek to WIS 57 in Random Lake
Length: 6.85 miles

Description of work: Work will consist of milling and resurfacing 6.85 miles of WIS 144 and widening the travel lanes by two feet, widening shoulders, replacing curb and gutter, replacing storm sewer in Silver Creek, replacing culverts, updating existing beam guard, flattening side slopes, and upgrading a number of intersections.

July 17 to July 21: Milling the asphalt pavement will begin at WIS 28 and proceed east. Clearing and grubbing will begin. Grading will begin on the west end of the project.
July 24 to July 28: Grading will continue. Base aggregate will follow the grading operation. Storm sewer removals and installation will begin in Silver Creek.
Traffic impacts: WIS 144 will be closed from Carroll Street to WIS 28 for the duration of the project. There will be a three-day closure at some point during construction between WIS 57 and Carroll Street for the box culvert work. Local access to the project will be allowed at various side streets.
Detour: The detour will be north along WIS 28, east on County A and south on WIS 57.
WINNEBAGO COUNTY
WIS 441 Tri-County Expansion Project: I-41 Interchange Ramps
Location: I-41 US 10/ WIS 441 Interchange
Schedule: March 2017 to September 2018
Length: 0.865 miles
Cost: $14.7 million
Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 441 Tri-County Expansion Project. The work under this contract shall consist of excavation common, breaker run, base aggregate dense, concrete pavement, HMA pavement, storm sewer, erosion control items, pavement marking, structure polymer overlays, Structures B-70-407, B-70-409, S-70-257, N-70-100, N-70-101, N-70-110 and all incidental items necessary to complete the work as shown on the plans and included in the proposal and contract.
July 17 to July 21: Crews are scheduled to continue forming the deck on the east-to-north bridge. Crews are scheduled to continue construction of the west abutment of the east-to-north bridge. Girders are scheduled to be delivered and set over southbound I-41 and the south-to-east ramp for the north-to-west bridge.
July 24 to July 28: Bridge crews will continue setting rebar and decking on spans where girders have been set on the east-to-north. Bridge crews are scheduled to set the last span of concrete girders over southbound I-41 and the west-to-south ramp on the east-to-north bridge. Crews will begin decking over the newly set girders. Crews will also begin decking on the north-to-west bridge.
Traffic Impacts: Lane and ramp closures of the I-41 and US 10/WIS 441 interchange will be used as needed for specific operations. I-41 southbound is scheduled to be closed the nights of July 19 through July 21 for steel girder erection and July 25 for concrete girder erection. I-41 southbound to eastbound US 10 ramp is scheduled to be closed the night of July 21 for steel girder erection. US 10 westbound to I-41 southbound ramp is scheduled to be closed the night of July 25 for concrete girder erection.

WIS 441 Tri-County Expansion Project: Roland Kampo Bridge redecking and I-41/US 10/WIS 441 interchange structures

Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 441 Tri-County Expansion Project. The work under this contract consists of common excavation, borrow excavation, construction of interchange structures, redecking of bridge, median piers, concrete pavement, HMA pavement, storm sewer and erosion control, and all incidental items necessary to complete the work as shown on the plans.
July 17 to July 21: Construction of B-70-061 piers, and all substructure units will be completed. Precast girders will be placed on B-70-061. Work will continue decking and reinforcing steel will be placed on B-70-061, the westbound US 10/WIS 441 structure over Little Lake Butte des Morts. Decking will continue on the B-70-401, future westbound structure over I-41, and continue on the B-70-406 structure, the future west-to-north ramp structure. Contractor will prepare to resume setting steel plate girders on B-70-405 over the interchange the following week. The painting contractor will be painting the top flanges of the existing steel on the future westbound structure over Little Lake Butte des Morts.
July 24 to July 28: Work will continue decking and reinforcing steel will be placed on B-70-061, the westbound US 10/WIS 441 structure over Little Lake Butte des Morts. Decking will continue on the B-70-401, future westbound structure over I-41, and continue on the B-70-406 structure, the future west-to-north ramp structure. Placement of pre-stressed concrete girders will continue. Contractor will resume setting steel plate girders on B-70-405 over the interchange. There are planned deck pours on both the future west US 10/WIS 441 to north I-41 ramp structure (B-70-406), and on the future westbound US 10/WIS 441 structure over I-41 (B-70-401).
Traffic Impacts: Closures are planned beginning the week of July 24 to set girders over I-41/US 10/WIS 441. Northbound and southbound I-41 will have nightly full closures Tuesday through Friday. Message boards and news releases will be put out prior to that time to notify the public of traffic restrictions and full closures. There will also be daytime/nighttime lane closures on I-41 so accommodate bridge work. The west US 10/WIS 441 to north I-41 ramp is closed for the majority of the project. There will be various lane, ramp, and mainline closures at different times, throughout the duration of the project to mobilize equipment, build substructures, demo bridges, set girders and strip formwork. Prior notification of those closures will be on website, PCMS boards, news releases and social media, along with guidance to preferred routes.

Description: This work is part of the WIS 441 Tri-County Expansion Project. The project consists of reconstructing US 10/WIS 441 at the Midway Road Interchange. Contract work includes common excavation, roadway embankment, prefabricated vertical and horizontal drains, base aggregate, concrete pavement, asphalt pavement, storm sewer, bridge demolition, bridge construction, retaining walls, sign structures, signing, pavement marking, and lighting.
July 17 to July 21: The contractor installed temporary pavement markings, temporary barrier wall, and traffic control signage in preparation for switching traffic on US 10/WIS 441 to the temporary traffic configuration. Traffic is scheduled to be switched to the new configuration by the end of the week.
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will begin work excavating, installing drainage blanket material, and grading adjacent to Midway Road. The contractor may begin installation of preformed vertical drains late in the week depending on their progress.
Traffic impacts: There will be numerous impacts associated with switching traffic to the new configuration. Motorists are advised to watch for information posted on message boards located on the various ramps that will be impacted. All closures are weather dependent. The US 10 eastbound entrance ramp from County AP/Midway Road will remain closed long term. The US 10 westbound exit ramp to County AP/Midway Road and the US 10 eastbound exit ramp to County AP/Midway Road are scheduled to close long term on Friday, July 21.

Description: This work is part of the WIS 441 Tri-County Expansion Project. The project consists of widening bridges B-70-115 and B-70-116 over Oneida Street for future expansion of US 10/WIS 441. The work under this contract includes common excavation, storm sewer, bridge widening and deck replacement, erosion control, asphaltic pavement, pavement marking, removals and all incidental items necessary to complete the work as shown on the plans and included in the proposal and contract.
July 17 to July 21: The contractor continued to drive piling on the east abutments and pier columns for bridge structures B-70-115 and B-70-116. The contractor also continued to excavate and grade within the WIS 441 median.
July 24 to July 28: The contractor will begin to excavate and drive piling at the B-70-115 and B-70-116 west abutments. The contractor will complete the excavation and grading within the WIS 441 median.
Traffic impacts: Southbound Oneida Street will be limited to a single lane closure. Eastbound and westbound WIS 441 will be limited to single lane closures during nighttime hours.
