WIS 59 Resurfacing (Waukesha to Eagle)

Waukesha County

Project Updates

Phase 1 road construction began on Monday April 6th and will be completed by Monday June 8th.  Phase 2 will begin on Monday, June 8th and last into the fall.

Traffic Updates – Week of 6/8/2026

  • The segment of WIS 59 between WIS 83 and County X will be fully opened to traffic on Monday, 6/8/2026.
  • The segment between Eagle and WIS 83 will be “Road Closed to Thru Traffic” beginning on Monday, 6/8/2026.  The barricades will be set up west of the roundabout (immediately west of Commercial Drive to be exact).  Full access to Commercial Drive businesses will always be maintained.  Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the closed area.
  • Daily localized traffic flagging and operations will continue as needed in North Prairie and Eagle for curb & gutter and sidewalk replacements.
  • Detour route is active and posted project wide
    • EB traffic will follow WIS 67 North from Eagle to US 18 in Dousman and then East along US 18 and South to where it connects to WIS 59 again in Waukesha.
    • WB traffic will follow US 18 North and from WIS 59 in Waukesha and West to WIS 67 in Dousman and then South along WIS 67 to where it connects to WIS 59 again in Eagle.

*Note: The project will have hard closures of westbound and eastbound WIS 59 to replace the railroad crossing panels just west of North Prairie.  This will be set up on Wednesday, June 10th.  It is anticipated the crossing work will be done by Wednesday,  June 17th.  WIS 59 will be hard barricaded off on both sides of the railroad crossing.  A detour will be set up using Road X and County E.  Again, local access will remain open for those who live or work in the hard closed areas.  Please follow the detour for the week needed for the railroad crossing replacement.

Not even emergency vehicles will be allowed to traverse the railroad crossing area during that time.

Construction Updates – Week of 6/8/2026

  • Concrete curb and gutter, curb ramps, and new signal base work is ongoing North Prairie on the outsides of the roadway under localized traffic control and flagging operations to maintain through traffic.   Curb and sidewalk work will also be finished up over the next couple of weeks in Eagle. For clarification, the WIS 59 project begins at the railroad crossing in Eagle and goes east, the WIS 67 project begins at the crossing and goes south.
  • The contractor intends to complete the concrete work in Eagle and North Prairie before the asphalt milling and paving operations begin.  The tentative start of the milling/paving operations is late June or early July.
