Overview

This project will make various improvements to I-41/43/894 and the Hale Interchange, between Lincoln Avenue and 84th Street, in Milwaukee County. 2026 construction has resumed.

2026 Construction Activities:

  • Base patching and paving on ramps
  • Permanent pavement marking on mainline I-43/41/894
  • Beam guard replacement
  • Pavement repairs in the Hales Corners Park and Ride
    • The Hales Corners Park and Ride lot will remain open for partial use during construction, as well as the MCTS Route 55 located within the lot
  • Bridge repair work:
    • Surface repairs and partial bridge painting on the I-43 bridges over Layton Avenue
  • Local road work on Lincoln Avenue, National Avenue, and Oklahoma Avenue:
    • Base patching and paving at intersections and traffic signal replacement

2026 Traffic Impacts:

Overnight lane closures on mainline I-43/41/894 for beam guard, pavement markings, and bridge work throughout the corridor.

Overnight ramp closures for base patching and paving operations on ramps.

Daytime single lane closures on WIS 100 (mid-May) for bridge work.

Overall Project Improvements

The entire corridor will be resurfaced. Other project improvements include:

  • Repair several (17) bridge structures within the Hale Interchange
  • Concrete base patching
  • Repair the Hales Corners Park and Ride lot
  • Reapply high friction surface treatment to interchange curves
  • Replace guardrail
  • Replace existing curb ramps to meet ADA standards
  • Signal and light upgrades
  • Ramp improvements

Schedule

This project began in late May 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
