WIS 24 Resurfacing (Janesville Road to 45th Street)

Project Details

Overview:

This project will make various improvements to approximately five (5) miles of WIS 24 (Forest Home Avenue) between Janesville Road in the village of Hales Corners and 45th Street in the city of Milwaukee. 2026 construction work is scheduled to resume in mid-March 2026.

Project Improvements include:

  • Resurface WIS 24 (Forest Home Avenue) within project limits
  • Replace traffic signals at 76th Street, Coldspring Road, and the 68th Street intersections.
  • Improvements to bridge structure at 76th Street
  • Reconstruct curb ramps at various locations to meet current ADA standards

Work on WIS 24 (Forest Home Avenue) is scheduled to resume in mid-March 2026.

WIS 24 between 45th Street and Howard Avenue (north segment) is substantially complete. Minor lighting and restoration work remains.

Work on WIS 24 between Howard Avenue and Janesville Road (south segment) will include:

  • Resurfacing
  • Pavement markings
  • Guardrail installation
  • Intersections improvements

2026 Traffic Impacts:

Traffic will be maintained in both directions of WIS 24 during construction.

45th Street to Howard Avenue (north segment): 

  • Short-term lane closures for lighting and restoration work

Howard Avenue to Janesville Road (south segment):

  • Long-term single lane closures

Schedule:

This project began in late March 2025 and is scheduled to be completed in mid-2026.

Work paused during the winter months (mid-December to spring 2026).
