Project Details

This project will improve road conditions and ride quality for approximately 4.8 miles of WIS 38 in Milwaukee and Racine Counties, from Linwood Road near Caledonia to E. Oakwood Road in Oak Creek.

Overview:

The WIS 38 rehabilitation project will include:

  • Mill 2” of existing pavement and repave with 2” of asphaltic pavement.
  • Joint repair and base patching.
  • Replace 5 failing small concrete culverts, rehabilitate 2 box culverts, and clean select pipes and ditches.
  • Replace/upgrade select beam guard locations.
  • Upgrade traffic signal equipment at the 6 Mile Road (County G) and the 7 Mile Road Intersections.
  • Improve/add curb ramps at the Elm Road intersection and where the Oak Leaf Trail crosses WI 38.

Traffic Impacts/Detours

WIS 38 will be CLOSED to through-traffic from Linwood Road to E. Oakwood Road from late July to mid-October.

  • Local access will be maintained – drivers are allowed to enter the work zone if their destination is in the work zone.
  • Daily lane closures within the work zone.
  • Detours will be posted utilizing County G (6 Mile Road), WIS 31, WIS 32, and WIS 100; alternate routes may be necessary.
  • There will be a full closure of WIS 38 at the Root River Bridge for 3 weeks to complete box culvert repair work.
