WIS 35, Onalaska to US 53, in Onalaska/Holmen, La Crosse County

Project overview

WisDOT has plans to improve this 3.5 mile section of Highway 35. This project will:

• Completely reconstruct the highway; new asphalt pavement, improved intersections, new pavement marking and signing.
• The configuration of the highway will change from undivided two lanes to two lanes separated by a two way left turn lane. Where left turning is not necessary, a raised median will separate the lanes.
• The intersection of Rider’s Club Road and Mason Street will be controlled with single lane roundabouts. The roundabouts will process all the turning traffic at these two side roads in the safest manner possible, while also calming traffic on WIS 35.
• All side road intersection will have left and right turn lanes to remove all turning from the single driving lane.
• A multi-use path will be constructed on the east side of the highway in Onalaska switching to the west side in Holmen.
