Traffic impacts
Lane Closures and Detours:
- Lane closures will be required on various lanes of US 61 for base patching and milling operations. Temporary Regulatory Speed Limit Reductions will be used in the active work areas. Lane closures will utilize a Digital Speed Reduction System (DSRS) that will notify travelling public of the current speed limit in the work areas of the project. Lane closures will remain in place day, and night as work operation require their use. Please follow and obey the work zone speed limit.
- Lane closures will be required on WIS 11 for pavement removal, grading, and paving operations. A single-lane automated traffic signal system will be in place at the far east project limit on WIS 11 for a portion of the WIS 11 work area due to restricted working width in that area. We ask that all motorists stay alert in this area for slowed or stopped traffic.
- Ramp closures will be required to repair the ramps at the WIS 11 and US 61 interchange, the Badger Road interchange with US 61, the Eagle Point Road Interchange with US 61, and the ramps at the split diamond interchange at Kieler. These ramp closures will occur at various times throughout the project. All ramp closures will be accompanied by a corresponding signed detour route. Please pay close attention revised routing at detour signage in the project vicinity.
Update for the week of October 13 to October 20:
US 61
Work:
-Crews will perform asphalt paving along NB and SB US 61and the entrance and exit ramps within the WIS 11 interchange.
-Crews will complete joint cleaning and patching.
Traffic:
– Various outside and inside lane closures will continue along US 61 NB and SB.
– Speed limit 55 mph during work operations daily.
– The NB US 61 exit ramp to WIS 11 EB will be closed on 10/20 and 10/23 for asphalt paving. Follow detour route.
WIS 11
Work:
– Crews will continue removal of the WB side of WIS 11.
-Crews will remove pavement at the Dickeyville Weigh Station.
-Crews will begin placing concrete on the WB side of WIS 11 at various locations.
Traffic:
– Traffic will remain shifted to the newly constructed side of EB WIS 11.
– Please reduce speed and be alert to the revised traffic patterns.
– Detour of WB WIS 11 to SB US 61 will continue to use NB US 61 to Badger Road Exit, crossing over US 61, and returning SB onto US 61 SB.
– Temporary signal operations will remain in use on the far east end of WIS 11.
– Dickeyville Weigh Station closed until early December 2025.
– Badger Road at the WIS 11/ WIS 35 intersection will close to through traffic on 10/25/25. Emergency access only. This closure is anticipated for 3 weeks, weather depending.
Next week: (10/27 to 11/3)
US 61
Work:
– Crews will begin repairs to the median barrier wall on US 61.
– Shoulder gravel will be placed along NB and SB US 61.
Traffic:
– Various left lane and right lane closures will occur along NB and SB US 61.
– Continuous ramp closure at the SB US 61 exit to EB WIS 11. Detour traffic SB US 61 to 11th Steet Dubuque, Iowa, cross under US 61 at 11th Street, return to NB US 61 using the NB entrance ramp to US 61, follow US 61 NB, and Exit to EB WIS 11 at ramp.
– Continuous ramp closure at the SB US 61 entrance to US 61 SB. No access, ramp closed and remains is in work area.
WIS 11
Work:
– Crews will continue removal pavement on the WB side of WIS 11.
– Rest Area 106 will remain closed with work operations to repair the parking and lane areas to continue.
– Dickeyville Weigh Station remains closed until early December.
– Badger Road at the WIS 11/ WIS 35 intersection will remain closed to through traffic. Emergency access only.
Traffic:
– Traffic will continue to operate bidirectionally along the EB side of WIS 11. Detour of WB WIS 11 to SB US 61 will continue to use NB US 61 to Badger Road Exit, Crossing over US 61, and Returning SB onto US 61 SB.
– All ramps and WIS 11 access to/from US 61, west of the WIS 11 structure over US 61, will be closed to all traffic for construction operations. See Detour routes noted above.
