Traffic impacts

Lane Closures and Detours:

  • Lane closures will be required on various lanes of US 61 for base patching and milling operations. Temporary Regulatory Speed Limit Reductions will be used in the active work areas. Lane closures will utilize a Digital Speed Reduction System (DSRS) that will notify travelling public of the current speed limit in the work areas of the project. Lane closures will remain in place day, and night as work operation require their use. Please follow and obey the work zone speed limit.
  • Lane closures will be required on WIS 11 for pavement removal, grading, and paving operations. A single-lane automated traffic signal system will be in place at the far east project limit on WIS 11 for a portion of the WIS 11 work area due to restricted working width in that area. We ask that all motorists stay alert in this area for slowed or stopped traffic.
  • Ramp closures will be required to repair the ramps at the WIS 11 and US 61 interchange, the Badger Road interchange with US 61, the Eagle Point Road Interchange with US 61, and the ramps at the split diamond interchange at Kieler. These ramp closures will occur at various times throughout the project. All ramp closures will be accompanied by a corresponding signed detour route. Please pay close attention revised routing at detour signage in the project vicinity.

 

Update for 4/20 to 4/26:

US 61

Work:

  • Crews will place temporary barrier wall and begin structure repairs and approach slab work at the Kieler interchange structures along US 61 NB and SB from Eagle Point Road to County HH.
  • Crews will complete pavement repairs and asphalt shouldering along the NB exit ramp to WIS 11.
  • Crews will reinstall guardrail to the permanent barrier wall at the Mississippi River bridge along SB US 61 and along the NB US 61 exit ramp to WIS 11.
  • Crews will place permanent pavement markings along NB and SB US 61 from the WIS 11 overpass and the Mississippi River bridge.

Traffic:

  • Median lane closures will remain in place along US 61 NB and SB from Eagle Point Road to County HH.
  • Right lane closures will remain in operation along NB and SB US 61 between the WIS 11 overpass and Mississippi River bridge.
  • The North bound exit Ramp to WIS 11 is closed but will reopen Friday April 24, 2026, weather depending. Please use Exit 2 at Badger Road and follow the signed detour to access eastbound WIS 11.
  • Speed Limit 55 mph during work operations daily. Please obey posted speeds.

 

WIS 11
Work:

  • Crews completed the concrete pavement patching in the WIS 11 and WIS 35 intersection along eastbound WIS 11.
  • Crews completed the concrete island sidewalk in the median on STH 11 near WIS 35.
  • Crews will begin permanent pavement marking placement along EB and WB WIS 11.

Traffic:

  • Eastbound right lane closure will be in place until Friday April 24, 2026.

 

Next week: (4/27 to 5/3)

US 61
Work:

  • Crews will continue structure repairs and approach slab work at the Kieler interchange structures along US 61 NB and SB from Eagle Point Road to County HH.
  • Crews will mill and pave asphalt shoulders and install new guardrail along the NB exit ramp to WIS 11.
  • Crews will remove permanent barrier wall forms and reinstall guardrail at the Mississippi River bridge along SB US 61.
  • Crews will continue permanent pavement marking placement along NB and SB US 61 from the WIS 11 overpass and the Mississippi River bridge.

Traffic:

  • Median lane closures will continue along US 61 NB and SB from Eagle Point Road to County HH.
  • Right lane closure will remain in operation near the Mississippi River bridge from the WIS 11 SB entrance ramp to the Mississippi River.
  • The NB exit ramp to WIS 11 will remain closed. Please use Exit 2 at Badger Road and follow the signed detour to access eastbound WIS 11.
  • Speed Limit 55 mph during work operations daily. Please obey posted speeds.

 

WIS 11
Work:

  • Crews will begin final curb, gutter and island nose at the WIS 11 median located at the NB US 61 exit and entrance ramps to WIS 11.
  • Crews will continue permanent pavement marking placement along EB and WB WIS 11.

Traffic:

  • Anticipate EB and WB median lane closure on WIS 11 to complete the remaining curb, gutter, and island nose.
