Project Overview

Construction in 2024 includes:

  • Mitigating water bubbling though the pavement near the bridge over the St. Louis River by constructing a French drain in the ditch line. This will consist of excavating a trench, placing two feet of geotextile wrapped rock, placing granular backfill and covering the trench with medium riprap.
  • Repairing the settlement area at the Little Pokegama River by excavating 15 feet to 19 feet below the existing road surface, adding a pipe underdrain system to allow water to flow out of the slope and placing a four-foot gravel layer which would then be covered by granular backfill to the bottom of the new pavement structure.
  • Repairing the slope 1,700 feet west of the river by constructing a drainage trench filled with a pipe underdrain system to allow water to flow out of the slope. In addition, installing sheet pile at the bottom of the slope to prevent the slope from sliding and rebuilding the slope with soils less susceptible to failure.
  • Repairing “sliver fill” (thin layer of new soils placed over existing soils) failure across from Billings Drive by constructing a “stability trench” in the shoulder of the road. This will consist of excavating a trench, placing geotextile wrapped rock and placing pipe underdrain to allow water to flow out of the trench.
  • Making culvert repairs in spot locations.

Construction in 2025 includes:

  • From the beginning of the project to the railroad crossing 200 feet west of Butler Avenue:
    • Removing 3.25 inches of asphalt pavement.
    • Overlaying the roadway with 3.25 inches new asphalt.
  • From the railroad crossing 200 feet west of Butler Avenue to end of the project:
    • Removing 1.5 inches to 2.25 inches of existing asphalt on the driving lane and 2.25 inches of existing concrete pavement on the parking lane.
    • Overlaying the roadway with 2.5 inches of new asphalt on the driving lane edge and 2.25 inches of new asphalt on the parking lane.
  • Upgrading and modernizing select sidewalk curb ramp slopes.
  • Removing and replacing curb and gutter in the village of Oliver.
  • Removing and replacing guardrail at the Oliver Bridge and County W.
