WIS 144 Resurfacing (West Bend to Washington County Line)

Washington County

Project Overview

This WisDOT project will resurface and make improvements to approximately 8.5 miles of WIS 144, between Skyline Drive in the city of West Bend and the Washington/Sheboygan County line.

Improvements:

  • Mill two (2) inches of existing asphalt and replace it with two (2) inches of new asphalt
  • Remove and replace existing guardrail to meet current standards
  • Plant living snow fence (shrubs) in select locations
  • Replace curb ramps to meet ADA standards
  • Remove cattle pass near the county line and replace it with a culvert pipe

Note: At the intersection of WIS 144 and County H, the existing pavement will remain. A roundabout will be constructed at this location in the future. The gap will be re-striped to maintain visibility of pavement markings. View future roundabout project here.

Traffic Impacts:

This project will be split into two stages. During each stage, WIS 144 will be closed to through traffic with a posted detour. Local traffic will be guided and protected with a flagging operation.

Stage 1: Skyline Drive to WIS 28

  • Detour: WIS 33 to US 45 to WIS 28

Stage 2: WIS 28 to Washington/Sheboygan County line

  • Detour: County H to County XX
  • Truck Detour: County A to WIS 57 to WIS 144

There will be a short-term full closure of WIS 144 near the county line for cattle pass removal

Schedule:

Work is scheduled to begin in late March and be completed by summer 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
