Project Overview
2024 CONSTRUCTION BEGINS APRIL 29, 2024.
- Full closures of WIS 22 at US 45 begins April 29.
- Full closure of WIS 76 between US 45 and WIS 54 begins May 9.
Project locations
The WIS 76 improvements are separated into three individual projects that extend from WIS 54 in the village of Shiocton to the US 45/WIS 76/WIS 22 intersection west of the village of Bear Creek in the towns of Bovina, Liberty, Maple Creek and Deer Creek in the counties of Outagamie and Waupaca. Each project is identified by a unique Project ID.
- Waupaca County project: Outagamie/Waupaca County Line to US 45 (Project ID 6518-00-70)
- Outagamie County project: WIS 54 to Outagamie/Waupaca County Line (Project ID 6518-06-71)
- Outagamie County bridge project: Bridge structures between Boelter Road and County W (Project ID 6518-07-71). Complete 2023.

Project benefits
The existing pavement is showing signs of distress including traverse cracking and the existing joints are failing. The purpose of the project is to improve the deteriorating pavement and structures on WIS 76, extend the roadway’s service life, decrease maintenance costs, and upgrade other roadway deficiencies to improve safety. Intersection modifications will provide improved turning movements and increase safety.

- Realigning median islands on WIS 76/WIS 22 at US 45 intersection
- Widening for an improved right turn lane on WIS 22 at US 45 intersection

Project ID 6518-06-71 (Outagamie County: WIS 54 to County Line)
- Mill/overlay of existing pavement
- Culvert replacements (complete 2023)
- Beamguard replacements
- Curb ramp replacements within the village of Bear Creek
- Pavement markings and shoulder gravel
Project ID 6518-07-71 (Outagamie County bridges)
- Replace two existing bridges with box culverts (complete 2023)
- Pavement markings and shoulder gravel (complete 2023)

Project schedule
- Full closure of WIS 22 at US 45 begins April 29, 2024.
- Full closure of WIS 76 between US 45 and WIS 54 begins May 9, 2024.
Full closures, lane closures, and flagging operations will be utilized at various times during construction. Construction will be staged in a manner to minimize traffic disruptions. Access to businesses and property owners will always be maintained.
- Beginning May 6, 2024: WIS 76 will be detoured for the culvert, paving and structure replacement work.
- The detour will follow WIS 54 and US 45.

- Beginning April 29, 2024: The west leg of US 45/WIS 76/WIS 22 will be closed for intersection improvements. WIS 22 will be detoured for 45 days.
- The detour route will utilize County T and County O.

- Traffic control in the form of flagging operations will be used to close one lane at a time in portions of the work zone.
- Businesses affected by the detours are urged to use the resources noted below for businesses in work zones.
Temporary business signing and business resources
Temporary business signing may be placed during the detoured portion of the project by filling out a WisDOT business signing permit. All temporary business signing needs approval via the permit before placement to ensure it is in a safe location and does not pose a visual distraction or traffic hazard. The temporary business signing permit is free. Costs associated with creating the temporary sign are the responsibility of the business. The permit is available as a fillable-form WORD document or pdf below, or you can request one from the project contacts below.
