Construction includes:

• Removing the existing pavement and a portion of the existing base course on US 53.
  • This work will begin with the northbound lanes.
• Placing an additional layer of base aggregate over the existing one.
• Replacing the pavement on US 53.
• Rebuilding the intersection approaches.
• Installing cable barrier in the median between 26th and 27th avenues and adding a high-friction surface treatment on the pavement in the same area to reduce crossover and run-off-the-road crashes.
  • The high-friction surface treatment has been postponed until spring 2025.
