This project will upgrade and replace the lighting systems in multiple tunnels in Milwaukee County.

Project Improvements:

Tunnels to receive lighting upgrades during this project:

• Northbound I-43 exit ramp tunnel to W. Kilbourn Avenue
• Northbound I-43 entrance ramp tunnel from W. Kilbourn Avenue
• Northbound WIS 38 (S Howell Avenue) under the MKE runway
• Southbound WIS 38 (S. Howell Avenue) under the MKE runway

Traffic Impacts:

The northbound I-43 entrance and exit ramp tunnels to/from W. Kilbourn Ave. will be closed while the work is occurring. Detours will be posted.

• Stage 1: Work on the northbound I-43 exit ramp tunnel to W. Kilbourn Ave.

• Stage 2: Work on the northbound I-43 entrance ramp from W. Kilbourn Ave.
  • Detour: 6th Street to Fond Du Lac Ave. (WIS 145)

• Stage 3: WIS 38 tunnels under MKE runway

WIS 38 (S. Howell Avenue) will remain open to traffic in both directions during construction with lane closures.

Access to local businesses and residents will be maintained.

Schedule:

This project is scheduled to begin in February 2025 and be completed by mid-summer 2025. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
