Project Details
This WisDOT project will make improvements to approximately 6.5 miles of I-41/I-43/I-94/I-894, through the Mitchell Interchange, in Milwaukee County. The project limits are between Rawson Avenue to the south, Howard Avenue to the north, and 35th Street to the west.
Project Improvements:
This project will improve pavement conditions and ride quality and include structural maintenance. The entire corridor will be resurfaced with asphalt. Additional improvements include:
- Milling and patching
- Replace High Friction Surface Treatments
- Joint maintenance at bridge approaches
- Repairs to retaining walls
- Various improvements to College Avenue park and ride lots
- Various drainage improvements
- New pavement markings and signing
Traffic Impacts:
The majority of the work on this project will be completed during overnight and off-peak hours. This project will maintain the current number of lanes and lane configurations. Additional traffic impacts include:
- Long-term system ramp closures
- Off-peak hour/nighttime lane, ramp, and freeway closures are anticipated during this project.
- Posted detours will be provided
- Paving and repair work will be completed in stages
Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained at all times.
Schedule:
Work is scheduled to begin in early September 2025 and be completed by fall 2026. Work will pause during the winter months and will resume in the spring.
