Project Details
This WisDOT project will reconstruct the I-43 and Becher Street interchange in Milwaukee County. The existing scissor ramp configuration will be replaced with a traditional diamond interchange.

Project Improvements:
- Elimination of scissor ramp configuration and partial removal of frontage roads to construct a traditional diamond interchange
- Reconstruct Becher Street under I-43 to include one through lane in each direction.
- Signal reconstruction at both I-43 northbound and I-43 southbound ramp terminals
- Update all curb ramps within project limits to meet ADA standards
Traffic Impacts:
The entire I-43 and Becher Street interchange will be closed during construction. This includes the on/off-ramps and Becher Street under the interstate. Traffic on I-43 will not be impacted during peak travel hours.
Detours will be posted utilizing the Lapham Boulevard interchange, 1st Street (WIS 32), and 6th Street (WIS 38).
Pedestrian detours will also be posted.

Schedule:
Construction is scheduled to begin in early April 2026 and be completed by late fall 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
