WIS 38 Improvements (Linwood Road to Dunkelow Road)

Project Details

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is scheduled to begin a resurfacing project along WIS 38 from Dunkelow Road in the Village of Caledonia to Linwood Road in Racine County. Construction is expected to begin early September 2026 and be completed by fall 2027.

Project Improvements:

  • Repaving of approximately 2.6 miles of WIS 38
  • Replacement of 4 existing culverts
  • New signing, pavement marking, and rumble strips
  • Improve drainage issues for existing culvert pipes
  • Construct single-lane roundabouts at the WIS 38 intersections with 4 Mile Road and 5 Mile Road (2027)

Traffic Impacts:

WIS 38 will be closed to through traffic. The proposed detour will be WIS 31, from Northwestern Avenue to 6-Mile Road. Access to residencies and businesses will be maintained. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Schedule:

This project will be constructed in two stages over the course of two construction season. Work will be paused during the winter months.

  • Stage 1 (2026): Resurface WIS 38 between Linwood Road and Dunkelow Road.
  • Stage 2 (2027): Construct roundabouts at 4 Mile Road and 5 Mile Road intersections. The 4 Mile Road roundabout will be constructed first. The 5 Mile Road roundabout will be constructed after the 4 Mile Road roundabout is completed. Both intersections will not be closed at the same time.
