WIS 38 Bridge Replacement

Racine County

Project Details

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin construction work along WIS 38 in June 2024, from Rapids Drive to County MM (N Green Bay Road), including the bridge over the Root River. Other improvements include:

  • Replacement of concrete pavement, curb and gutter.
  • Provide sidewalks and wider shoulders for bike usage.
  • Replacing existing traffic signals and sign structures at Rapids Drive and Northwestern Avenue.
  • Reconfigure WIS 38 and Rapids Drive intersection for improved traffic flow.

This project will take place in two stages, over the course of two construction seasons (2024 and 2025), to accommodate traffic.

Traffic Impacts: Stage 1 (2024)

WIS 38 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction and will remain open to local traffic (travelers with a destination inside the workzone) during construction. Access to local residences and businesses will be maintained.

  • Motorists are encouraged to take an alternative route utilizing WIS 31, County C (Spring Steet), and Memorial Drive to avoid delays.

Following Stage 1, work will temporarily pause in the winter months, and resume in spring of 2025 under Stage 2.
