WIS 38 Bridge Replacement

Racine County

Project Details

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is currently resurfacing WIS 38, from Rapids Drive to County MM (N Green Bay Road), including the bridge over the Root River. Other improvements include:

  • Replacement of concrete pavement, curb and gutter.
  • Provide sidewalks and wider shoulders for bike usage.
  • Replacing existing traffic signals and sign structures at Rapids Drive and Northwestern Avenue.
  • Reconfigure WIS 38 and Rapids Drive intersection for improved traffic flow.

During the 2024 construction season, the WIS 38 westbound bridge and travel lanes were completed as part of stage 1 of the project. In 2025, the eastbound bridge and travel lanes will be built during stages 2 and 3.

Traffic Impacts: Stage 2 (2025)

Beginning in April 2025, WIS 38 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction and will remain open to local traffic (travelers with a destination inside the workzone) during construction. Access to local residences and businesses will be maintained.

  • Motorists are encouraged to take an alternative route utilizing WIS 31 and County C (Spring Steet) to avoid delays.

Following stage 2, work will continue into the 3rd and final stage of construction in late fall of 2025.
