WIS 33 Retaining Wall Replacement

Project Details

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is replacing the retaining wall along the south side of WIS 33, adjacent to the Cedarburg Bog State Natural Area, approximately 0.6 miles west of the County I roundabout, in Ozaukee County.

Project Improvements:

  • Clear trees and shrubs
  • Remove existing retaining walls (gabions)
  • Install new retaining wall consisting of concrete panels supported by steel posts
  • Reconstruct existing paved shoulder of WIS 33
  • Install curb and gutter inlets
  • Replace culvert extension on the north side of WIS 33 and install a storm drain
  • Install new guardrail

Note: the removal of the trees and shrubs along the wall will improve views of the Cedarburg Bog State Natural Area

Traffic Impacts:

A full closure of WIS 33 will be required to remove and replace the retaining wall. A detour will be posted utilizing County Y, WIS 60, and County I.

Tree and shrub clearing operations will be performed under shoulder closures.

Schedule:

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and be competed by summer 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
