WIS 241 Resurfacing (Layton Avenue to College Avenue)

Milwaukee County

Project Updates

September 17 Update

We are continuing to make progress in Stage 2 of the project. We will be finishing the base patching work today for inside lanes, left turns lanes, and median areas, and we have begun paving the lower layer of asphalt for the remaining areas of the project. Yesterday, the Southbound (SB) inside lane of 27th Street was paved with the lower layer of asphalt, followed by SB left turn lanes and median areas paving today. Tomorrow (Thursday), we will be paving the Northbound (NB) inside lane of 27th Street, and on Friday, we will paving the NB left turn lanes and median areas.

We are also planning to mostly complete some remaining concrete pavement repair work around the Layton Ave intersection by the end of the week or early next week.

Overall, our goal is to complete the paving of the lower layer of pavement this week, and next week we will be placing the top surface layer of pavement for the  inside and middle lanes of 27th Street for NB and SB, as well as left turn lanes and median areas. As of now, the surface paving is scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday next week.

Crews will also be installing new signs in the median areas after the paving is completed, as well as placing the new pavement markings, and completing the clean up and landscaping at that time. Once that work is completed, probably around the end of next week or the week of 9/29, we will have one more traffic switch back to an outside lane closure for NB and SB to complete the remaining pavement marking, signs, and landscaping along the outside of the roadway.

We are aiming to complete the project in a few weeks by October 4th; however, there may be some minor work to complete, including any repairs and site cleanup, to be completed after that date. We thank you for your continued patience with the project, and have a great rest of the week!
