Project Details
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is resurfacing and making improvements to approximately 4.4 miles of WIS 181 (76th Street), from W. Florist Avenue to County Q (County Line Road) in Milwaukee County.
Project Improvements:
- Resurface WIS 181 (76th Street) within project limits
- Upgrades to 12 signalized intersections within project limits
- Pedestrian safety enhancements, including updated curb ramps to meet ADA standards
- New sidewalk installations
Note: As part of this project, there will be a reduction in travel lanes in multiple areas of the corridor. The number of travel lanes in each direction will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes between Florist Avenue to approximately Dean Road. WIS 181 will be reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction from Dean Road to the north end of the project limits.
Traffic Impacts:
Work will be completed under single and double lane closures in each direction. Access to local businesses and residents will be maintained.
Getting Involved:
WisDOT hosted a project kickoff meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the Milwaukee Public Library on Good Hope Road. This meeting was an opportunity for members of the community to meet with the project staff to discuss the improvements and traffic impacts.
