The I- 894 project began in early February with nightly lane closures both northbound and southbound to install temporary lighting and begin base patching.
On March 4th, a lane was closed on I-894 southbound from National Avenue to the Hale Interchange (the lanes shift at National Avenue and the right lane drops at the Oklahoma Avenue southbound exit ramp). The National Avenue entrance ramp to I-41/894 southbound will also be closed. This lane closure will allow the contractor to begin removals in the median.
Lane widths will be reduced both northbound and southbound and lanes will be shifted on to the shoulders in mid/late March after paving the shoulders. This allows the contractor full access to the median work zone to complete all median work, including storm sewer, barrier wall, lighting, signing, and pavement.
Traffic will remain in this staged configuration through late June. The completion of this stage allows us to reopen the Zoo Interchange westbound to southbound system ramp. With three lanes both northbound and southbound, lanes will then be shifted to the median. This allows the contractor to complete all shoulder work.
The full scope of this project includes: removals, excavation common, base aggregate, HMA pavement, concrete barrier, concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer, erosion control, traffic control, pavement marking, sign structures, permanent signing, concrete structures rehabilitation, concrete structures PPC overlay, steel structures painting, restoration.
All southbound work will be completed in late-August and northbound work will be completed in early October. When all work is completed, four lanes will be available in both directions.
