Tri-County Expansion

Improved Interchanges

The WIS 441 Tri-County Project extends for six miles along US 10/WIS 441, from County CB to 1/2 mile east of Oneida Street. Although it was not part of the main corridor, the original study also included the 3-mile section of US 41 from the County II (Winchester Road) interchange to the County BB (Prospect Avenue) interchange.

I-41 interchange

  • Restoring missing ramp movements
    – Northbound I-41 to westbound US 10
    – Eastbound US 10 to northbound I-41
  • Constructing a flyover freeway split for westbound US 10/WIS 441 to southbound I-41 to accommodate
    high traffic volumes
  • Constructing auxiliary lanes along northbound and southbound I-41 between US 10 and County II interchanges to improve traffic operations
  • Realigning a short segment of American Drive to accommodate the I-41 widening
  • Constructing stormwater detention ponds to provide proper drainage
 System Interchange after Little Lake Butte des Morts crossing

  • Adding a new parallel bridge south of the existing bridge to handle eastbound traffic with three through lanes and one auxiliary lane
  • Re-conditioning the existing bridge to handle westbound traffic
  • Using more cost-effective concrete girders for new bridge with alternative bridge pier layout
  • Provide overhead lighting on bridges across LLBDM to improve night visibility

County P (Racine Road) interchange

  • Constructing new US 10/WIS 441 bridges over Racine Road entrance and exit ramps and realigning US 10/WIS 441 to flatten horizontal curvature
  • Constructing a more traditional “diamond” style layout for westbound entrance and exit ramps, including a roundabout at the westbound ramp terminal intersection
  • Constructing a roundabout at the intersection of Racine Road with the interchange ramps
  • Allow full access to 12th Street and a clear line of sight for approaching traffic
  • Constructing stormwater detention ponds to provide proper drainage

County AP (Midway Road) interchange

  • Constructing new US 10/WIS 441 bridges over Midway Road and realigning US 10/WIS 441 to flatten horizontal curvature
  • Maintaining stop sign control at the Midway Road interchange entrance and exit ramps
  • Reconstructing a portion of Midway Road in the interchange area
  • Relocating large utility towers in the interchange area to accommodate flatter freeway alignment
  • Constructing a stormwater detention pond to provide proper drainage
