Traffic Impacts & Detours

WisDOT is committed to staging this project in a manner that minimizes impacts to local businesses while completing the project as quickly as possible.  Much of the construction will be conducted under traffic. Please drive carefully in project work zones!

*Please note: A local project on WIS 42 proposed by the village of Ephraim in Ephraim will be conducted in concurrence with the state highway project. For information and traffic impacts on this local project, please see the village of Ephraim Streetscape Project website.

The traffic impacts and detour routes for the WIS 42 state highway project are as follows:

  • May 28, 2019 to June 2019
    • WIS 42 open to traffic with flagging operations.
    • No work on WIS 42 for Memorial Day weekend and Fyr Ball Festival weekend.
    • No work on the weekends after May 31.
  • July 2019 – August 2019
    • No work on WIS 42.
  • September 2019 – Early October 2019
    • WIS 42 open to traffic with flagging operations.
    • No work on weekends.
  • Mid-October 2019 – Winter Shutdown
    • WIS 42 northbound will remain open to traffic with flagging operations.
    • WIS 42 southbound will be closed from Shore Road to County F.
      • WIS 42 southbound will be detoured via County E, County A, and County F. (Closure is allowed through November 22, 2019. Winter shutdown may occur after this).

    • WIS 42 will be open to bi-directional traffic for the following weekends: Pumpkin Patch Days in Egg Harbor, Fall Fest in Sister Bay, and Jack-O-Lantern Days in Fish Creek.
  • Spring 2020 – Memorial Day Weekend 2020
    • WIS 42 will be closed from Shore Road to the YMCA pedestrian crossing in Fish Creek.
    • WIS 42 from Bluff Lane to Shore Road will be open to traffic with flagging operations.
  • Memorial Day Weekend 2020 – End of June 2020
    • WIS 42 will be closed from County F to the YMCA pedestrian crossing in Fish Creek.
    • WIS 42 will be open from Bluff Lane to CTH F with flagging operations.
    • Detour to be removed and road open to all traffic by July 4th Holiday Weekend.
