WIS 23 will only be open to local traffic and emergency vehicles.
During the first year of construction in 2021, downtown Darlington will be open to two-way traffic north of the bridge over the Pecatonica River. This is intended to allow motorists access to both the north and south parts of town. For example, someone located south of the river may cross the bridge to get to the Fair Grounds or Hospital. It is not intended that this route be used by through traffic, meaning for those with destinations outside the city. Please follow the detour route shown below for those trips.
In 2022, construction will be taking place between County Shop Rd. and River St. and traffic in this section will be restricted to a single lane and often will only be riding on a gravel surface. The intersection of River St. and WIS 23 will remain open to allow for use of local routes to get north and south of the river. For through traffic with a destination outside the city, please follow the detour route shown below.
Through traffic on WIS 23 will be detoured via:
- WIS 81 – 10.3 miles
- WIS 126 – 5.7 miles
- US 151 – 14.3 miles
WIS 81 will only be open to local traffic and emergency vehicles.
Through traffic on WIS 81 will be detoured via:
- WIS 23 – 6.1 miles
- WIS 11 – 6.0 miles
- WIS 78 – 13.8 miles
*Motorists are advised to slow down, be prepared to stop, and watch for flagging operations in the construction zone.
