{"id":6,"date":"2015-06-12T13:30:37","date_gmt":"2015-06-12T18:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/weeklyupdates-nw\/overview\/"},"modified":"2017-04-17T10:03:24","modified_gmt":"2017-04-17T15:03:24","slug":"overview","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/weeklyupdates-nw\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Construction Update \u2013 Northwest Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is providing a weekly update on construction projects in the northwest region, which includes the counties of Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Taylor, Trempealeau and Washburn counties.<\/p>\n<p>Construction related traffic impacts are subject to change and dependent on favorable weather patterns.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Bayfield County<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>Highway:<\/strong> WIS 13<br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong> Superior Avenue to 7<sup>th<\/sup> Street, Washburn\u00a0\u2013 Bayfield<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule:<\/strong> April 17 \u2013 June 30, 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Cost:<\/strong> $1.7 Million<br \/>\n<strong>Description:<\/strong> This project includes the replacement of 18 culverts throughout a 10 mile stretch of WIS 13.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic impacts: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>During construction, culvert replacements will be constructed under traffic with the use of flagging operations and single lane closures. WIS 13 will remain open to two-way traffic during night time and weekend hours.<\/li>\n<li>A short term detour will be required to replace deep culverts on WIS 13 between Bayfield County Highway J and 7<sup>th<\/sup> The detour will be limited from Monday 6:00 a.m. to Friday noon. Cars will be detoured via County Highway J and County Highway I\/ Washington Avenue. Trucks will be detoured via County Highway J. The detour will take place for a maximum of three weeks between early May and mid-June.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Chippewa County<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>Highway:<\/strong> WIS 124<br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong> Bridge Street, Chippewa Falls<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule:<\/strong> April \u2013 September 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Cost: <\/strong>$ 2.3 Million<br \/>\n<strong>Description: <\/strong>Improvements include removing deteriorated concrete pavement, resurfacing the Summit Avenue intersection with an asphaltic surface, bridge deck repairs and a polymer overlay. The project will also include improvements to curb and gutter, beam guard, signing and pavement marking.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic Impact:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motorists can expect to encounter lane shifts and single lane closures throughout the project. Speeds will be reduced from 35 to 25 MPH.<\/li>\n<li>Pedestrian access will be maintained through a sidewalk detour throughout construction. Pedestrians will be directed to utilize River Street, Main Street, and Park Avenue as an alternate route.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Clark County<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>Highway:<\/strong> WIS 29<br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Boyd &#8211; Abbotsford<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule: <\/strong>April to October 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Cost: <\/strong>$6.8 Million <strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Description: <\/strong>Crews will be removing concrete pavement cracking and fatigue locations replacing them with new concrete slabs. Crews will also mill and overlay the eastbound and westbound shoulders on WIS 29 along with replacing bridge wingwalls on three bridges throughout the project limits.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic impacts: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motorists can expect to encounter one lane in each direction on WIS 29 between Copenhaven Avenue and the off ramp to County X and between County O and Fairground Avenue (County DD). Speed will be reduced from 65 MPH to 55 MPH within construction zones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Highway: <\/strong>WIS 98<br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>City of Loyal, South and Main Streets, Helm Street to Elm Drive<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule: <\/strong>April &#8211; November 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Cost: <\/strong>$5.1 Million<br \/>\n<strong>Description: <\/strong>Reconstruction of WIS 98 including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, concrete pavement, and decorative street lights.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic impacts: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WIS 98 is closed at the Elm Drive intersection. Traffic will be detoured via County K, County H, and County Y<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Douglas County<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>Highway: <\/strong>US 2<br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Belknap Street, City of Superior; Banks Avenue to Hill Avenue<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule: <\/strong>March 16, 2017 to November 14, 2017 and 2018 Construction Season<br \/>\n<strong>Cost: <\/strong>$23 Million<br \/>\n<strong>Description: <\/strong>Belknap Street (US 2) will be reconstructed from Banks Avenue to Hill Avenue over two constructions seasons. Work scheduled for 2017 includes the east and west ends of the project from Banks Avenue to John Avenue and Birch Avenue to Hill Avenue respectively. The center section from John Avenue to Birch Avenue will be reconstructed in 2018.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic impacts: <\/strong>Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures and lane shifts as the project progresses.<br \/>\n<strong>Project Staging, Schedule and Traffic Overview:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Banks Avenue to John Avenue (West End) \u00a0 Traffic Control<br \/>\n<\/u>South Side\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4\/11\/17 \u2013 6\/15\/17\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bidirectional on the north side.<br \/>\nNorth Side\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6\/16\/17 \u2013 8\/14\/17 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Bidirectional on the south side.<br \/>\nMedian\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 8\/15\/17 \u2013 9\/27\/17\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Traffic in the outside lanes for median work.<\/p>\n<p><u>Birch Avenue to Hill Avenue (East End)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Traffic Control<br \/>\n<\/u>South Side\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4\/17\/17 \u2013 7\/17\/17\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bidirectional on the north side.<br \/>\nNorth Side\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 7\/18\/17 \u2013 9\/24\/17 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Bidirectional on the south side.<br \/>\nMedian\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 9\/25\/17 \u2013 11\/14\/17\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Traffic in the outside lanes for median work.<\/p>\n<p><u>Project Detour<br \/>\n<\/u>A detour route is currently signed as an alternate route and for truck traffic.<\/p>\n<p><u><\/u><strong><u>Eau Claire County<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>Highway: <\/strong>WIS 27<br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Augusta, Bridge Creek Bridge<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule: <\/strong>April 5 &#8211; September 15, 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Cost: <\/strong>$1.2 Million<br \/>\n<strong>Description: <\/strong>This project includes bridge removal and replacement over Bridge Creek in the city of Augusta.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic impacts: <\/strong>Motorists can expect to encounter shoulder closures and flagging operations.<\/p>\n<p><u><\/u><strong><u>Pierce County<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>Highway: <\/strong>WIS 128<br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>Elmwood, WIS 72 to WIS 29<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule: <\/strong>April 10 &#8211; July 26, 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Cost: <\/strong>$2.5 Million<br \/>\n<strong>Description: <\/strong>The project will\u00a0recondition\u00a0a\u00a07 mile segment\u00a0of WIS 128. Work includes replacing and\u00a0rehabilitating existing culvert pipes, widening shoulders, asphalt resurfacing, replacement and enhancement of\u00a0existing permanent signs, and new\u00a0pavement markings.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic impacts: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures, controlled by flagging operations, between WIS 72 and County B.<\/li>\n<li>Motorist can expect to see survey vehicles and inspection vehicles along the shoulders as crews continually look ahead to the next operation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>St. Croix County<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>Highway: <\/strong>I-94<br \/>\n<strong>Location: <\/strong>WIS 128 interchange east of Baldwin<br \/>\n<strong>Schedule: <\/strong>April 3 \u2013 November 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Cost: <\/strong>$6.4 Million<br \/>\n<strong>Description: <\/strong>Build a new bridge west of the existing bridge, reconstruct WIS 128 from 50<sup>th<\/sup> Ave to 56<sup>th<\/sup> Ave including roundabouts at the new interchange ramps, and build a new service road connecting to the north end of the Kwik Trip parking lot.<br \/>\n<strong>Traffic impacts: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WIS 128 will be open to through traffic throughout project duration<\/li>\n<li>Expect flagging operations periodically throughout project duration along WIS 128<\/li>\n<li>Expect single lane closures periodically throughout project duration along I-94 in each direction with a speed reduction to 60 MPH<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is providing a weekly update on construction projects in the northwest region, which includes the counties of Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Taylor, Trempealeau and Washburn counties.
