Northeast Wisconsin highway construction projects taking place in 2022

Below is a listing of ALL 2022 construction projects under the authority of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region. The list includes state projects on interstates, the United States highway system, and the Wisconsin state highway system. The Northeast Region includes the counties of Brown, Calumet, Door, Fond du Lac, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Oconto, Outagamie, Sheboygan, and Winnebago. Projects are listed by county below.

BROWN COUNTY

WIS 29/County VV Interchange                                                  

Location/limits: WIS 29/County VV Interchange in the villages of Hobart and Howard within Brown County and work at WIS 29/County U

Length: 1.3 miles

Schedule: May 2021 to mid-October 2022

Description of work: Construction of a grade-separated interchange at the intersection of WIS 29/County VV, including the connection and/or realignment of local roadways. After the completion of the interchange at WIS 29/County VV, the intersection of WIS 29/County U will be closed. Work involves grading, base, culvert pipe, storm sewer, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, pavement marking, finishing, landscaping, bridge structures, and incidental items.

Traffic impacts: WIS 29 lane closures can be expected during off-peak hours intermittently during the project. County Road VV will be closed and detoured in early spring 2022.

Local roadways will be closed and/or detoured during various times throughout construction. Project website should be checked regularly for closure and/or detour updates.

Detour: Eastbound WIS 29 detoured to WIS 32 interchange and use on/off ramps to access eastbound WIS 29. Various detours will be in place during different times during construction. Project website should be checked regularly for closure and/or detour updates.

WIS 57 and County K Intersection Reconstruction

Location/limits: WIS 57 intersection with County K in the town of Scott

Length: 0.7 miles

Schedule: May 2, 2022 to September 2022

Description of work: Reconstruct the intersection to a ‘restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT)’. This removes cross traffic (full left turn) from side road. Other work includes grading, based, concrete pavement, hot mix asphalt, curb and gutter, fence, lighting, and incidentals.

Traffic impacts: WIS 57 will have lane closures except during peak weekend hours. The project will be built in two stages:

Stage 1

  • Traffic for WIS 57 will be utilizing one lane during the week and both lanes on weekends.
  • Inside lane of WIS 57 northbound and WIS 57 southbound will be closed to traffic during off-peak times during construction.
  • County K and Bay Settlement Road will utilize existing traffic pattern. No left or through movements.
  • Movements will be allowed from County K and Bay Settlement Road.

Stage 2

  • Traffic for WIS 57 will be utilizing one lane during the week and both lanes on weekends.
  • Outside lane of WIS 57 northbound and WIS 57 southbound will be closed to traffic during off-peak times during construction.
  • County K will be closed. Local traffic only will be allowed.
    • Local traffic will have access to County K from the east. Right-turn movements not allowed from WIS 57 northbound through the work zone to County K.
  • Bay Settlement Road will be closed.
    • Local traffic will be maintained to Bay Settlement Road.
    • Right-turn movements will be prohibited from WIS 57 southbound through the work zone to Bay Settlement Road.
  • County K will utilize existing traffic pattern. No left or through movements will be allowed from County K and Bay Settlement Road.

Detour: No detour will be posted for local road closures.

WIS 96 Resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 96 in Brown County from WIS 32 in the town Wrightstown to I-43 in the town of New Denmark

Length: 14.7 Miles

Schedule: August 2022 to summer 2023. There will be a pause in construction until paving operations can begin in early Summer 2023.

Description of work: The existing asphalt roadway will be recycled in place with a new asphalt driving surface placed after recycling the existing pavement. In addition to the asphaltic overlay, drainage improvements will be performed along the length of the project. This will include replacement of the box culvert between County X and Ronk Road with a new single span bridge structure in addition to several culvert pipe replacements. Rumble strips and pavement markings will also be installed.

Traffic impacts: Traffic will be detoured to complete various segments of the project. Two different detours will be utilized.

Detour:

  • Stage 1: WIS 96 to WIS 32/57 to County Z to County W to County Z to County G to WIS 96
  • Stage 2: WIS 96 to County G to County Z to I- 43 to WIS 96

WIS 32 Resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 32/57 from south county line in the town of Holland to Duester Street in the town of Wrightstown

Length: 6.6 miles

Schedule: May 9, 2022 to August 2022

Description of work: Mill and overlay of WIS 32/57, including culvert and curb ramp replacements, beam guard upgrades, a box culvert extension, reconstruct/realignment of Man Cal Road intersection, centerline rumble strips and pavement markings.

Traffic impacts: Man Cal Road will be closed to traffic for about four weeks for reconstruction. WIS 32/57 and the WIS 96 roundabout will close for up to two days to mill and pave. Flagging operations and shoulder closures for remaining work.

Detour: The detour for WIS 32/57 will utilize County Z to County PP back to WIS 32/57 in De Pere. The detour for WIS 96 will utilize County D to County Z to County PP.

BROWN AND OCONTO COUNTIES

US 41 Resurfacing

Location/limits: US 41 from Norfield Road to US 141 within the town of Little Suamico, town of Abrams, and the village of Suamico.

Length: 9.1 miles

Schedule: August 2022 to July 2023

Description of work: Resurfacing of US 41 in Oconto and Brown Counties will include culvert pipe replacements, overhead sign structure, base patching, guardrail upgrades, and pavement marking.

Traffic impacts: US 41 will remain open during construction with lane and shoulder closures allowed during certain dates/times.

  • Lane closures are prohibited Monday through Thursday between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on both the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • On Fridays, lane closures are prohibited from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on both the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • On Saturdays, lane closures are prohibited from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • On Sundays, lane closures are prohibited from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both the northbound and southbound lanes.

All interchange ramps to USH 41 are anticipated to remain operational throughout construction with possible short-term closures. Brown Road at USH 41 will be closed for a short duration during off peak hours to replace a culvert crossing.

BROWN AND MANITOWOC COUNTIES

 

I-43 Resurfacing, Ramp and Bridge Overlay

Location/limits: I-43 from WIS 310 in Manitowoc County to WIS 96 in Brown County, including all interchanges in the project work zone, and the bridge deck on WIS 96 over I-43 in the village of Denmark

Length: 15.5 miles

Schedule: March 7, 2022 to November 2022

Description of work: Construction includes a bridge deck overlay on WIS 96 over I-43, bridge repair on Rockwood road over I-43, concrete repairs of existing I-43, milling of existing asphalt and paving in new asphalt, removal and replacement of existing wire woven fence, planting of living snow fence and pavement marking.

Traffic impacts: I-43 will be reduced to one lane to travel to maintain traffic during resurfacing. Motorists could encounter delays during peak travel times. Northbound I-43 between WIS 310 and County V will be closed for two nights. Both lanes of travel will be open for holiday traffic or Packer home games.

  • The WIS 96 bridge over I-43 in Denmark CLOSED for two months beginning March 7. No vehicles will be permitted to cross the bridge.
  • Two to three-week ramp closures will take place at WIS 147, County K, County V, and WIS 310.

CALUMET COUNTY

WIS 114 Resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 114 from the WIS 114 and US 10 interchange in Calumet County to south junction of WIS114/WIS 55 in Calumet County

Length: 5 miles

Schedule: Mid-June 2022 to September 2022

Description of work: Construction includes removing asphaltic surface milling, rubbilizing, grading, base, asphaltic pavement, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, and pavement marking.

Traffic impacts: Numerous lane and road closures are part of the project. Below is a summary. For specific dates, please see project website.

  • Stage 1: Consists of work primarily in the village of Sherwood. During stage 1, motorists can expect single lane closures, flagging, and shoulder/parking lane closures, temporary pedestrian access rerouting sidewalks, and the following road closure:
    • A two to three-week closure for culvert, base/subgrade repair, and intersection work in the village of Sherwood
  • Stage 2: Consists of work primarily between the village of Sherwood and the WIS 55/WIS 114 roundabout (including the roundabout). During stage 2, motorists can expect single-lane closures, flagging, and shoulder closures, with the following road closures:
  1. Castle Dr. will be closed at the WIS 114 intersection for reconstruction of the intersection. This closure will last approximately 3 weeks.
  2. A one to two-week closure of the WIS 55/WIS 114/Stommel Road roundabout for resurfacing and other work at the roundabout.
  3. A one to two-week closure of WIS 114/WIS 55 from the village of Sherwood to the WIS 55/WIS 114/Stommel Road roundabout for railroad work just south of the WIS 55/WIS 114/Stommel Road roundabout.
  • Stage 3: Consists of work primarily north of the WIS 55/WIS 114/Stommel Road roundabout to just south of the interchange of US 10 and WIS 114.
    • During stage 3, this portion of WIS 114 will be closed to thru traffic. The State Park Road and Pigeon Road intersections will also be closed.

Detour:

  • Stage 1: Detour will use US 10 to WIS 32/57 to WIS 114.
  • Stage 2b: Detour will use US 10 to County M.
  • Stage 2c: Detour will use WIS 55 to US 10 to County M.
  • Stage 3: Detour A detour will use US 10 and WIS 55.

Detour:

  • Stage 1: Detour will use US 10 to WIS 32/57 to WIS 114.
  • Stage 2b: Detour will use US 10 to County M.
  • Stage 2c: Detour will use WIS 55 to US 10 to County M.
  • Stage 3: Detour A detour will use US 10 and WIS 55.

DOOR COUNTY

 

WIS 42 Shoreline Stabilization

Location/limits: WIS 42 shoreline from the Ephraim Creek crossing near Brookside Lane to approximately 400’ west (south) in the village of Ephraim.

Length: Approximately 400 feet

Schedule: March 2022 to April 29, 2022

Description of work: This work involves stabilization of the bay of Green Bay shoreline adjacent to the WIS 42 roadway by installing a buried concrete block wall and reinforcing the riprap adjacent to Ephraim Creek.

Traffic impacts: WIS 42 will remain open to traffic, but may be reduced to a single lane with flagging operations.

WIS 42 Resurfacing

Location/limits: South junction of WIS 57 to Bayview Bridge in the town of Nasewaupee and city of Sturgeon Bay

Length: 7.2 miles

Schedule: March 2022 through September 30, 2022

Description of work: Milling and resurfacing of existing asphaltic lanes and shoulders, diamond grinding of concrete pavement, paving and repairing concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, widening paved shoulders, installing shoulder rumble strips, excavation, adding gravel to existing shoulders, replacing culvert pipes and storm sewer, upgrading guardrail, upgrading traffic signals, permanent signing, and pavement marking. Work also includes widening the intersections at Ashland Avenue and Neenah Avenue, and widening and extending turn lanes at County U and Circle Ridge Road.

Traffic impacts: WIS 42 will remain open to traffic throughout construction but may be reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak times. The WIS 42 southbound right turning movement to Ashland Avenue may be closed for up to 60 days. The WIS 42 southbound right turning movements to Circle Ridge Road and to Neenah Avenue may also be closed for shorter periods while those intersections are reconstructed. The Green Bay Road ramps may be closed for up to 30 days. Access to various intersections may also be reduced to a single counter-directional lane to facilitate construction operations.

Detour: The city of Sturgeon Bay may post a detour route for WIS 42 southbound traffic seeking the right turn to Ashland Avenue when that movement is closed. The anticipated detour route for this movement is Columbia Avenue. The Door County Highway Department may also post a detour for County U when that intersection is closed.

FOND DU LAC COUNTY

 

WIS 23 Expansion – Urban Section

Location/limits: US 151 Interchange to Seven Hills Road in the town of Empire

Length of project: 5.34 miles

Schedule: Spring 2021 to fall of 2022

Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 23 4-lane, on-alignment expansion project scheduled for 2019-2022 in Sheboygan and Fond du Lac counties. This west section of the overall project includes the complete construction of additional lanes. Work involves grading, drainage culverts and inlets, aggregate base, concrete pavement, and other incidentals items of work. This project includes construction of a roundabout at WIS 23 and Wisconsin American Drive, a jug handle interchange with roundabouts at WIS 23 and County K including two WIS 23 bridges over County K. At WIS 23 and County UU, a diamond interchange with roundabouts including a bridge over WIS 23 will be constructed. Northbound and southbound ramp widening and new retaining wall at US 151 and WIS 23 interchange.

Traffic impacts:  WIS 23 will remain open to one lane in each direction. County K north of WIS 23, and County UU at WIS 23 will remain closed in 2022.

Restricted left turns to and from WIS 23 at Whispering Springs Drive and at south County K.   Hilltop Drive connection to WIS 23 will close permanently in late spring 2022.

Taft and Tower and Poplar roads will close for 14 days each to construct new intersections in late summer 2022.

Southbound US 151 ramp will close for 10 days in fall 2022. A detour will be posted.  Northbound US 151 ramp widening construction will cause ramp delays in summer of 2022.

I-41 Resurfacing

Location/limits: I-41 from the South County Line in Byron to US 151 in city of Fond du Lac.

Length: 6.75 miles

Schedule: End of June 2022 to November 15, 2022

Description of work: Work includes milling and paving I-41 from the south county line to US 151, including the County B interchange ramps … . This project also includes replacing the beam guard, replacing the median cable guard, grading the median, spot grading the side slopes, and repairing culverts exhibiting joint separation.

Traffic impacts: I-41 will remain open during construction with lane closures allowed during certain dates/times.

  • Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, lane closures are prohibited Monday through Friday on the northbound lanes between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on the southbound lanes between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Before Memorial Day and after Labor Day, lane closures are prohibited Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on both the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • On Saturdays, lane closures are prohibited from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the northbound lanes and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the southbound lanes.
  • On Sundays, lane closures are prohibited from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the northbound lanes and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the southbound lanes.

US 45/WIS 23 and County VV (Pioneer Road) Intersection Reconstruction

Location/limits: US 45/WIS 23 (Johnson Street) at the intersection with County VV (Pioneer Road), city of Fond du Lac

Length: .118 miles Intersection only

Schedule: June 2022. This is a 50 working days contract with construction from June until the end of August.

Description of work: The project consists of constructing slotted left-turn lanes along US 45/WIS 23 (Johnson Street) at the intersection with County VV (Pioneer Road), as well as a dedicated right-turn lane along westbound US 45/WIS 23. The concrete pavement within the intersection will be replaced. Monotube traffic signals with one traffic signal head per lane will also be installed on US 45/WIS 23. In addition, the project will upgrade the pedestrian crossing movements within the intersection.

Traffic impacts: Traffic at the W Johnson Street/I-41 interchange will be impacted due to the lane closures along W Johnson Street. During construction activities local business access to County VV/Pioneer Road South of the project limits will be a right-in/right-out from the open US 45/WIS 23 eastbound roadway at all times. Signal timing modifications at the interchange on/off ramps may be needed.

  • Access to Pioneer will be limited due to the construction of the median and roadway pavement replacement.
  • Access to Pioneer Road north of Johnson street will be limited during construction.
    • Access to Pioneer Road north will use the existing local road network.
  • Access to Pioneer road south of Johnson street will be limited due to an adjacent local project to reconstruction Pioneer Road.
    • This project will coordinate with the local project an any access restrictions/needs.
    • It is planned for Pioneer Road south of Johnson Street will be closed at Johnson Street during the WisDOT intersection project.

US 151 Culvert Drainage Way Replacement

Location/limits:  US 151 between County W and County Q within the town of Malone

Length: .75 miles

Schedule: End of June 2022. This is a 35 working days contract, which roughly equates to 10 weeks of work.

Description of work: The project consists of replacing existing corrugate metal culvert pipes with reinforced concrete culvert pipes at four locations within a 0.75-mile length of roadway along US 151 between County W and County Q.

Traffic impacts: US 151 will be closed and detoured in the project limits.

  • To not land lock any residents, the pipes will not be built concurrently.

Detour: Traffic will use County Q and County W.

KEWAUNEE COUNTY

 

WIS 29 Resurfacing 

Location/limits: WIS 29 from the West County Line in the town of Montpelier to County C in the city of Kewaunee.

Length: 11.7 miles

Schedule: This is a 45 working day contract, which equates to approximately 10 weeks of work. Construction may occur anytime from April to October depending on contractor schedule.

Description of work: Milling and resurfacing of the existing asphaltic lanes and shoulders, widening paved shoulders to 5 feet, installing centerline and shoulder rumble strips, adding gravel to existing shoulders, replacing culvert pipes, upgrading guardrail, permanent signing, and pavement marking.

Traffic impacts: WIS 29 will remain open to traffic throughout construction with lane closures and flagging operations during work.

MANITOWOC COUNTY

 

WIS 32/WIS 57 Resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 32/57 from WIS 67 to the WIS 32/57 split within the city of Kiel

Length: 3.95 miles

Schedule: April 2022 to July 2022

Description of work: Milling and resurfacing the existing asphalt, beamguard, concrete repair and pavement marking.

Traffic impacts: WIS 32/57 will remain open with lane closures and flagging operations during work. A short-term closure of the roundabout at WIS 67 will occur during work at the roundabout.

Silver Creek Bridge Replacement – WIS 42

Location/limits: WIS 42 bridge over Silver Creek just south of US 151 near Fricke Road in Manitowoc Rapids

Length: On bridge and approaches

Schedule: July 2022 to September 2022

Description of work: Demolition and replacement of existing bridge over Silver Creek

Traffic impacts: Bridge will be closed during construction. No vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge. Access to business and property owners will be maintained.

Detour: Traffic will use I-43 and County C.

MARINETTE COUNTY

No work scheduled in 2022.

 

OCONTO COUNTY

 

WIS 32 Resurfacing (Suring) and Bridge Deck Replacement

Location/limits: WIS 32 resurfacing work zone from Trinity Church Road through the village of Suring to County AA in the town of Breed. Bridge deck replacement at the WIS 32 bridge over south branch of Oconto River north of County M in Suring.

Length: 10.15 miles and on bridge

Schedule: April 2022 to September 2022

Description of work: Resurfacing of WIS 32 will include culvert pipe and storm sewer replacements, curb ramp improvements, beam guard upgrades and shoulder rumble strips. Construct a new deck surface on the rural bridge over the South Branch of the Oconto River.

Traffic impacts:

  • WIS 32 will be closed and detoured for the bridge deck replacement for two months (anticipated to begin mid-April 2022). There will be a hard closure at the bridge, and vehicles will not be allowed to cross. A state highway detour will be signed. Motorists may find local roads provide a faster commute.
    • Access will be maintained to businesses and properties in the work zone.
  • There will be a full closure of WIS 32 from Trinity Church Road to West Street for two weeks following the bridge closure.
    • Access will be maintained to businesses and properties.
  • Lane closures and flagging operations will be used for most work.

Detour:

  • WIS 32 bridge detour: Motorists will be directed to use County Road M, WIS 55 and WIS 64 to rejoin WIS 32.
  • WIS 32 Suring detour: Motorists will be directed to use County H and County R.

WIS 32 Resurfacing (Mountain)

Location/limits: WIS 32 from Parkway Drive to County Road W within the town of Mountain.

Length: 4.29 miles

Schedule: June 2022 to September 2022

Description of work: Resurfacing of WIS 32 will include culvert pipe replacements, culvert pipe lining, rumble strips, and curb repairs.

Traffic impacts: WIS 32 will remain open with flagging operations during work hours.

US 41 Bridge Rehabilitation

Location/limits: Southbound US 41 bridge over the Little Suamico River within the town of Little Suamico

Length: On bridge

Schedule: September 2022 to June 2023

Description of work: Full deck replacement, concrete pavement approaches, pavement marking, and incidental items.

Traffic impacts: Long-term lane closures of southbound US 41. Full closure of the southbound US 41 off-ramp to County S.

WIS 22 Resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 22 from the South County Line to Finnegan Lake Road within the town of Gillett

Length: 3.5 miles

Schedule: This is a 25-working day contract, which equates to 8 weeks of work. Expected to be constructed sometime between May and July of 2022.

OUTAGAMIE COUNTY

 

Project Name I-41 Preservation Project

Location/limits: I-41 from WIS 15 in the town of Grand Chute to County J in the city of Kaukauna

Length of project: 12.37 miles

Schedule: April 1, 2022 to May 26, 2022

Description of work: Work includes cleaning and sealing I-41 mainline and interchange ramp pavement cracks and joints, placement of asphalt repair mastic, concrete pavement repair, some asphalt shoulder paving, and pavement marking. **This work is not part of the I-41 expansion project.**

Traffic impacts: Single lane closures along I-41 will be allowed during overnight hours.

  • Closure hours will vary. The permitted timeframe for lane closures on weeknights is 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The permitted timeframe for lane closures on the weekend is 6 p.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Interchange ramp closures will also be allowed during overnight hours, generally between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. Dates and times will be posted on the I-41 project construction website during construction.
    • On and off-ramp closures are not allowed at adjacent interchanges.

Project Name WIS 15 East Segment Reconstruction/Expansion

Location/limits: WIS 15 from County JJ in the village of Hortonville to Lily of the Valley Dr. in the village of Greenville

Length: 3.4 miles

Schedule: April 2022 to November 2023

Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 15 4-lane expansion project scheduled for 2022-2023 in Outagamie County. This contract will be underway to complete the east segment. Work involves grading, base, culvert pipe, storm sewer, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, pavement marking, finishing, landscaping, large drainage structures, and incidental items.

Traffic impacts: Construction will be completed in multiple stages to keep WIS 15 open to traffic for much of this project. However, WIS 15 will be closed for roughly 30 calendar days in late 2022 while work is complete surrounding the Wisconsin Central Limited railroad crossing. Side road closures along this segment will occur periodically during the project but will be staged such that consecutive side roads will not be closed.

Detour: WIS 15 detour during work at railroad crossing.

  • Westbound WIS 15 will be detoured to WIS 76 to County JJ back to WIS 15.
  • Eastbound WIS 15 will be detoured to County JJ to WIS 76 back to WIS 15.

Project Name WIS 15 Bypass Reconstruction/Expansion

Location/limits: WIS 15 from CN Railroad to County JJ in the towns of Hortonia and Ellington and the village of Hortonville

Length: 3.6 miles

Schedule: April 2022 to November 2023

Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 15 4-lane, off-alignment expansion project scheduled for 2021-2024 in Outagamie County. This initial contract is to complete the bypass portion. Work involves grading, base, landfill waste removal, culvert pipe, storm sewer, asphalt pavement, concrete curb and gutter, pavement marking, finishing, landscaping, bridge/drainage structures, retaining walls and incidental items.

Traffic impacts: Most work on the bypass where the roadway does not conflict with existing roadways will be completed in stage one. Staging where proposed roadways conflict with existing roadways is as follows:

  • Stage 1 (Early 2022): All side roads will remain open to traffic with only short-term lane closures on County M and Nash Street for bridge construction.
  • Stage 2 (Summer 2022): County MM will be closed for a maximum of 40 consecutive calendar days.
  • Short-term lane closure with flagging operations will be used on County M to construct the intersection with County MM.
  • All other side roads will remain open.

WIS 47 resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 47 from County JJ in the town of Center to County B in the town of Black Creek

Length: 10.1 miles

Schedule: July 2022 to October 2022

Description of work: Work includes milling and resurfacing of WIS 47, box culvert replacement, pipe culvert replacements, beamguard replacement, permanent signing, pavement marking, and incidentals.

Traffic impacts:

  • WIS 47 will be closed and detoured between County A and County S for the box culvert replacement.
    • Access to businesses and properties will be always maintained.
  • WIS 47 will remain open to traffic with single lane closures during daylight hours and flagging operations for resurfacing.
    • Lane closures will not be allowed during holiday timeframes.

Detour: The detour will utilize County A and County S.

WIS 55/County JJ roundabout and WIS 55 resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 55 from just north of I-41 in the city of Kaukauna to WIS 54 in the town of Oneida

Length: 14.08 miles

Schedule: April 2022 to October 2022

Description of work: Work includes milling and resurfacing of WIS 55 in the project limits and construction of a new intersection (roundabout) at the WIS 55/County JJ intersection. Specific items of work also include a box culvert extension, pipe culvert replacements, beamguard replacement, permanent signing, pavement marking, lighting, and incidentals.

Traffic impacts:  WIS 55 and County JJ will be closed to traffic and detoured during roundabout construction. Access will be maintained to business and properties.

WIS 55 resurfacing (I-41 to WIS 54):

  • WIS 55 will remain open to traffic with single lane closures during daylight hours and flagging operations.
    • Lane closures will not be allowed during holiday timeframes.
  • During work at the WIS 55 and County E intersection, the east leg of County E will be closed and detoured.
  • During curb ramp work at the WIS 55 and County S intersection, right turns will be restricted in the quadrant being constructed.
    • Concurrent work at the County E and County S intersections is not allowed.

Detour:

  • WIS 55 detour during the roundabout construction will follow I-41 to County N to County UU.
  • County JJ will be detoured by Outagamie County in conjunction with a separate county project that will reconstruct County JJ from just east of County N to the state highway project’s west limits.
  • County E detour will follow WIS 55 to County S.
  • Detour for eastbound County S to southbound WIS 55 right turn will follow County J to County UU.

WIS 23 Resurfacing

Description of work: Mill and overlay of the original WIS 23 lanes, includes rumble strips and pavement markings. This is the last project of the WIS 23 Expansion Majors project.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY

 

Racine Street Bridge Replacement

Location/limits: Fox River Bridge & Approaches, city of Menasha, Racine Street from Oak Street to 1st Street

Length of project: 0.37 miles

Schedule: September 2020 through November 2022

Description of work: Work includes replacing the existing bridge with a new bascule bridge generally just east of existing location. It also includes new roundabouts at the Racine Street intersections with Main Street on the north side of the river and Ahnaip Street on the south side of the river. Demolish and remove existing Racine Street Bridge.

2022 work includes continue construction of new bascule span and begin construction of fixed approach spans, demolish and remove existing Racine Street Bridge, and construction of new roundabouts at the Racine Street intersections with Main Street and Ahnaip Street.

Traffic Impacts: While the Main Street and Ahnaip Street intersections are currently open, they will be closed in spring 2022 and remain closed until fall 2022.

Multiple County Bridge Deck Sealing

Location/limits: Various interstates, US highways, state highways, and some local roads that pass over these highways.

Length: On bridges/overpasses

Schedule: 20 working days, which roughly equates to six weeks. Deck sealing typically requires work in warmer months, but may occur anytime during the 2022 construction season.

Description of work: This work involves the maintenance sealing of concrete bridge decks on interstate highways, US highways, state highways, and some local roads that pass over these highways.

Traffic impacts: Bridges will remain open with lane closures during non-peak hours. Non-peak hour lane closures will vary depending on the bridge location.
