I-94 North-South Freeway Project

Bridge Maintenance Project

This project will implement preventative maintenance at multiple bridge locations along I-41/I-94 in Kenosha and Racine counties. A protective Thin Polymer Overlay (TPO) will be applied to bridges located between the Des Plaines River and the northern Racine County Line.

Project improvements

Thin Polymer Overlays are used to seal the road surface of the bridge and prevent salt from leaching down into steel reinforcement. A TPO is a thin coat of polymer spread across the deck in two coats with aggregate applied between each coat. They are typically applied within the first ten years of initial bridge construction to preserve structural integrity.

Work is scheduled to begin the week of June 7 and be complete by late summer, 2021.

traffic impacts

To help minimize traffic impacts, all temporary lane restrictions or ramp closures are scheduled to occur during off-peak travel times and overnight hours. Intermittent, overnight detours will be posted.
