The purpose of the project is to extend the life of the system interchange flyover ramp structures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project improvements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a bridge preservation project. Project improvements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Milling a portion of the deck, performing deck repairs, and overlaying with a polyester polymer concrete (PPC) overlay\n<ul>\n<li>Six interchange flyover ramp bridge overlays are in Brown County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Polymer overlay at the I-41 and US-45 system interchange ramp in Winnebago County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Anticipated benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bridge deck overlay project will extend the service life of these critical infrastructure components by addressing the accelerated deterioration and wear of the existing deck overlays. Anticipated benefits include a significant increase in the overall lifespan of the flyover structures, reduced future maintenance costs through proactive preservation, smoother driving lanes that improve motorist comfort and efficiency, and enhanced safety via a restored bridge deck overlay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Construction begins on the Brown County structures July 7, 2026, and will finish in fall of 2026.<\/li>\n<li>Construction on the Winnebago County structure will take place in 2027.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Traffic impacts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Starting Monday, July 27, 2026,<\/strong> lane closures will begin on the I-41\/I-43 Interchange flyover ramps for milling, deck repairs, and polyester polymer concrete overlay.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The I-43 northbound to I-41 southbound flyover ramp will have lane closures first, expected to last up to four weeks.<\/li>\n<li>Lane closures on the I-41 northbound to I-43 southbound and I-43 northbound to I-41 northbound flyover ramps are scheduled to begin in August or September.\n<ul>\n<li>Some periods may have lane closures on multiple ramps simultaneously.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Note:<\/strong> Short-term evening or overnight full closures may occur. There will be no detour posted for this closure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Future impacts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WIS 29 eastbound to I-41 northbound: <strong>Full closure of the ramp in late 2026.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The detour will take motorists off at the WIS 29 eastbound exit to Packerland Dr.\/Shawano Avenue, then proceed east on Shawano to the northbound I-41 on-ramp.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0I-41 northbound to US 45 northbound (Winnebago County): <strong>Full closure of the ramp in 2027.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Work and closure expected in 2027.<\/li>\n<li>The detour will direct motorists off at the US 45 \/Algoma Avenue exit and use the roundabout on US 45 southbound to make a U-turn to US 45 northbound.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>WisDOT created maps of all four detour routes.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/i41rehabbrwin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1457\/11307371detours.pdf\">View all detour routes above on a detail display map<\/a>(4-page pdf)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Business Resource: WisDOT\u2019s In This Together program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WisDOT recognizes businesses located in work zones or impacted by detour routes have special needs. WisDOT\u2019s In This Together program is offered to business, organizations and community leaders as an idea source as they plan for road construction in their area.
