The purpose of this website is to provide information regarding construction operations, schedule, traffic impacts, and information for businesses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE &#8211; Main Street Bridge opens April 17, 2026. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>April 20 to April 24:<\/strong> Operational testing of the bascule span will be completed. Pedestrians and motorists should expect frequent openings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minor punchlist and finishing items will remain after April 17 that will not affect traffic. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project location<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Main Street Bridge (B-70-56) over the Fox River and approaches, the city of Oshkosh, Winnebago County.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/45oshbridge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1430\/45brmap2.pdf\">View project location on map<\/a> (pdf)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project purpose and need<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The structure is safe for vehicle and pedestrian crossing. The purpose of the project is to preserve the operation of the structural, mechanical, and electrical components of the US 45 Main Street Bridge. The existing structure and its mechanical and electrical elements have received various repairs and maintenance over its lifespan, but the structure has become deficient due to varying levels of deterioration. Many of the elements are deteriorated or have exhausted their useful service life. These include structural, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project improvements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a rehabilitation-level project. Bridge improvements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rehabilitate existing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components of the bascule span<\/li>\n<li>Minor repairs to the operator\u2019s house, hydraulic power units, and access platforms<\/li>\n<li>Concrete deck repairs and overlay of the fixed approach spans<\/li>\n<li>Removal and replacement of the steel grid deck on the movable span.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Anticipated Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decreased maintenance costs associated with the structure<\/li>\n<li>Improved operation of the movable span<\/li>\n<li>Extending the life of the existing structure by replacing deteriorated and worn-out components<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Schedule<a href=\"http:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/45oshbridge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1430\/bridge-closed-sign.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29\" src=\"http:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/45oshbridge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1430\/bridge-closed-sign.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/45oshbridge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1430\/bridge-closed-sign.png 225w, https:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/45oshbridge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1430\/bridge-closed-sign-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/45oshbridge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1430\/bridge-closed-sign-85x85.png 85w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nConstruction will begin September 2, 2025, and conclude in the spring of 2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Traffic impacts<\/strong><br \/>\nThe bridge will be CLOSED from Sept. 2, 2025, to April 17, 2026.\u00a0 Detours will be provided for vehicles and pedestrians. Local, business, and emergency access will be maintained.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vehicle detour:<\/strong> The detour utilizes 9th Avenue, Oregon Street, and Jackson Street.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pedestrian detour:<\/strong> Uses sidewalks along 6th Avenue, Oregon Street, Jackson Street, Division Street, Pearl Avenue, and Main Street.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/projects.511wi.gov\/45oshbridge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1430\/45brdetour.pdf\">View both detour routes on a map<\/a> (pdf)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Marine impacts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stage 1: September 2, 2025, through October 14, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Lift spans will operate normally for all boats that require an opening.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stage 2: October 15, 2025, through April 17, 2026<\/strong> \u2013 Lift spans will remain closed and masted vessels will not be allowed to pass through (under) the bridge.\n<ul>\n<li>Smaller (un-masted) vessels that don\u2019t require a bridge opening will be able to pass through (under) the bridge at any time (just not under the lift\/movable spans).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>US Coast Guard (USGA) local notice to mariners (LNM). The permit is free. All temporary business signing needs approval via the permit before placement to ensure it is in a safe location and do not pose a visual distraction or traffic hazard. Costs associated with creating the temporary signing are the responsibility of the business.<\/p>\n<p>Please keep the following items in mind regarding business signing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Temporary business signings cannot be placed on traffic control devices or state signs.<\/li>\n<li>WisDOT encourages businesses to team up and have multiple businesses listed on one sign structure versus several individual signs. This makes it easier for travelers to identify signs and find their destination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Temporary Business Sign permits are available as a fillable-form WORD document or standard pdf file download.
